Nyu chances

I'm a high school senior planning on applying ED to NYU in the fall. NYU is my absolute #1 choice, however my grades are no where near the gpas of other applicants. I'm half Brazilian and a quarter German (I don't know if I fall under the "Latino" category ..:/)

Unweighted: 3.0
Weighted: 5.0

My transcript consists entirely of honors, AP and IB courses.

I have taken 6 AP courses since the 8th grade:
-AP German
-AP World History
-AP European History
-AP English Language
-AP US History
-AP English Literature

I am also an IB diploma candidate. I took IB SL Chemistry last year and am currently enrolled in:
-IB SL Theatre
-IB HL German
-IB SL Statistics
-IB HL Contemporary History
-IB HL English
-IB Theory of Knowledge

I took the SAT cold last spring and scored a rather low/average score. I plan on retaking the exam in October and I am aiming towards any score above a 1900 (preferably 2000+).

My ECs include:
-Best Buddies (9th)
-German Club (9th, 10th, 11th, 12th)
-Model UN (10th, 11th, 12th)
-Future Business Leaders of America (11th, 12th)
-Technical Theatre Club (11th, 12th)
-National Honor Society (11th, 12th)
-German Honor Society (11th, 12th)
-Thespian Honor Society (11th, 12th)
- JV Lacrosse Team (11th)

-I tutor elementary school students in German
-I am running for German Club President this month
-I recently completed a 5 week internship at a Congressmans office in DC
-I volunteer at IMPACT Theatre- a student-run theater production aimed to spread awareness on intolerance.

As you can see my resume is fairly strong, however, my gpa is definitely lacking. My German studies and extracurriculars are a major part of my life and I plan on applying to CAS for their German Language and Linguistics major. Other than that I plan to (hopefully) impress the admissions officers through my essays.

So....what are my chances?

Your GPA is a definite stumbling block, given that the average GPA is around 3.6. If you do really well on your SAT and SAT IIs you could have a chance, but you need to wow them on everything else. Your ECs are great, though, so definitely try!
I’d wonder, depending on their deadline, whether you should go ED, as it is possible that you could raise your GPA this semester. But that’s up to what you think is best for you.
Good luck!
