NYU Chances

Hi, thanks for looking at this post! I am a Florida resident going into my senior year of high school (Class of 2014). I would love the opportunity to attend NYU but don't know if my academics and EC's fit the admitted students into NYU. I would like to go into the medical field also.

You say “medical field”.Do you mean Pre-med?

Did you take SAT II’s?

Your ACT is better than your SAT. You can take it one more time in Sept or Oct to see if you can raise a section. NYU will Superscore

I see sports, volunteering, and short internship. Need to see leadership role.

To be honest I am not seeing a resume that screams Pre-med. Your Chemistry AP is low. Most of my D’s friends who are premed at NYU at very high boards and did science research.

I would say that you need to present something unique about yourself and need to show leadership… If you are going for Pre med you need EC’s in the science field. They are also looking for higher math scores since that ties in with Science.

Currently a low reach. Boards and grades within average. EC’s okay not that interesting. AP scores mediocre. Need to be more active in your high school and show leadership. Need an interesting “story” for your essays.

You’ve still got some time if you’re looking to attend Regular Decision.

I would definitely retake the SAT if time permits.

Your AP scores in regards to the pre-med field are weak, so consider participating in more ECs that display your interest in the field.

Have you held a leadership role in any sort of club, activity, or organization? If so, this will make a considerable impact on your application.

NYU only requires you submit either the ACT w/ Writing OR the SAT, so I would consider sending the ACT since it’s higher and more suited to their standards.

Be creative with your essays. NYU wants you to think outside of the box. Give them something that shows you’re a bright, unique individual. That’s what they look for.

Good luck!
