NYU Chances?

I’m a first year african-american female applicant from NY who applied to Skidmore for early decision.
-I have a 3.1 GPA (I know that’s low)
-I got a 1790 on the SAT
-I was accepted, last summer, to the NYS Young Writers Institute on Skidmore’s campus (which I put on my application)
-I also interned for an Assemblywoman in my town, so there’s an extra curricular
-I’m a part of the debate team, the GSA, I’m the editor of the literary magazine at my school
-I write for the school newspaper.
-I won four writing awards, one of which was international and that I came in first place in.

I’m just wondering what my chances of getting in are. I know they’re low, but do you think there’s a chance?

sorry. 1790 is just too out of reach

I’m applying to CAS btw

NYU: Reach
Skidmore ED: Reach

I don’t think the 1790 SAT puts you out of the pool (it does put you slightly lower in the 25th percentile ), but that with the GPA of 3.1 is what leads me to say that NYU is a very high reach. Is there a story you can tell to the AdComs? How is your GPA trend? If you had Cs in freshman and soph. years combined with all As in junior and senior, you can really brighten the GPA. Chance back?

They really will overlook some weaknesses in your application, if you make it up in other ways. So it is hard to predict. It also depends on you SAT scores. Did you show a strength in your verbal score? D was lopsided with a 610 Math and a 720 Verbal. One was just about 25th percentile, the other score was higher than 75th percentile. For her art major, math was really not very important so I don’t think her lower score was a factor. Same with grades. Outstanding and challenging English/ humanities classes will help them overlook a poor grade in math or science. Good luck!
