NYU Chances

Hi there I’m a rising senior and I’m interested in NYU.

W GPA: 4.11 UW GPA: 3.3 (my gpa is low because I took almost all honors/AP classes all four years and got As in English and history but B/C s in math and science - I’m kinda relying on colleges acknowledgeing the fact I challenged myself)

SAT: 1400 ish (I haven’t finished taking it yet)

APs: 5 APUSH, 5 AP Lang (my school doesn’t let sophomores take APs but I also took Econ junior year - I got an 86 in the class but a 2 on the AP; I’m taking AP Euro, AP Chinese, AP Gov, and AP Lit senior year)

SAT 2: 750 US history

Extra Curriculars: Varsity Girls Golf, President/Founder of Women’s Empowerment Club, President of Junior Statesmen Club, Girl Scout, Girls State, Diversity Club Secretary

Btw I want to be a history major - I hope the fact this is a less popular major helps me but I could be wrong

I also was in the Pre College program there and I got an 95 in the class I took in the Politics Department and got a letter of recommendation from my professor.

Thanks!

Your unweighted GPA is extremely low. The average unweighted GPA at NYU 2018 was a 3.7. If you have a hook or your grades show an upward trend maybe you’ll have a better chance. However it doesn’t look too good. I had a friend who applied to NYU with a 3.4 UW and a 1500 SAT and was rejected. Applying Early decision 1 would probably be your best bet as well, because it shows interest. Beware ED is binding. I would focus on my essays and actually taking the SAT. Pre-college programs or similar costly programs mean nothing if you have to pay to attend. When picking the school within NYU you want to attend pick LSP. LSP has a higher admission rate than CAS, Stern, or Gallatin. LSP is probably your best bet.
