NYU Class of 2013 acceptance rate?

MathTeamExtraPro, these are the figures NYU has given the federal govt so they should be free of spin. For the Fall of 2012, 36% of all women were accepted and 33% of all men for an overall acceptance rate of 35%.

NYU2013, does this figure include the degrees offered by Continuing Ed? I suspect most schools wouldn’t include those. I value the honesty but I do think that the figure is that really matters to prospective students is the admissions rate to the college (or major) they want to attend.

To my knowledge, it does - but I might be wrong. They’re supposed to include (and they do) all undergraduate programs. But, ‘undergraduate programs’ may be defined such that SCPS is allowed to be excluded since it’s non-traditional.

I’m a little confused. If there were 5,250 spots for 48,606 applicants, that would lead to an acceptance rate of about 11%. Can someone please tell me what I’m missing in my math here?

@NYU2013, yes I agree with you that the acceptance rate is between 20-25 percent. Those are just 3 schools that make up NYU? well I have to say that they are the well known ones that almost everyone knows. The other ones aren’t that popular if you ask me.

Oh, okay, I get it. Their yield is around 1/3, so they accept 3 times the amount of space they have, resulting in an acceptance rate around 30%.

MathTeamExtraPro, students generally apply to their particular college because of major, not because one college is more or less well-known. A Nursing, Social Work or education major will apply to the College of Nursing, Social Work and Steinhardt respectively. Eng students apply to Poly. I don’t think Nursing is an easier major than, say, history at CAS. There are a few majors where there is overlap but, generally speaking, major will limit school choice.

I heard this year it was around 25%. 37% sounds a bit obscured.
