@MrElonMusk so you are saying that they pretty much already decided who is accepted from the waitlist by now?
anyone get an interest letter for film and Tv at Tisch?
@Biyaoli No, no no, that is not what I mean. If that’s the case, then it would be a ranked waitlist. They don’t. What I mean is say NYU has 300 spots unfilled after May 1st. Admissions will go through the entire waitlist and select potentially 300 students with the email some received today. After all 300 students have responded with yes or no, admissions will make final considerations for those who said yes. The remaining unfilled spots undergo the same process again and again until NYU has met its freshman enrollment goal for this fall.
Since since nobody has posted yet that they have received an email from CAS, does that mean that there are no spots available in CAS?
@MrElonMusk If the date we submitted our form has no bearing on when we get the email, does that imply that NYU has reviewed every waitlist response and then sent the email out to those applicants who are one of their top choices? In other words, are those emails sent out as they read each waitlist response (implying they may not have reviewed every waitlist response yet) or are those emails sent out after they have reviewed ALL waitlist responses? Let me know if my question is still a little confusing. It is worth noting that NYU’s waitlist FAQ says “We will not even begin to assess our capacity to admit any new students until May 5th.” Therefore, it seems reasonable to believe that the date one submitted their waitlist response seems to be taken into account a little bit since everyone who received the email seems to have submitted their response early. What I’m a little confused about, as well, is why people are receiving emails already if the school claims that they will not begin evaluating their capacity to admit new students until May 5th? Man…this is so confusing hahaha
@AJSTAN It is my personal belief that they MIGHT be sending out the interest email to groups of applicants in order to determine how many applications they will need to reevaluate. I think this is the case because the waitlist FAQ states that " “We will not even begin to assess our capacity to admit any new students until May 5th.” So, it seems reasonable to believe that any interest emails sent out prior to May 5th are merely forms to gauge an applicant’s interest in the school rather than implying that the applicant is one of the top choices. I could be wrong, though. In any casee, I think there is definitely hope for you!
@imonthewaitlist I’m thinking some schools which are smaller than say CAS may have more clarity and fewer applicants and, thus, may require less time to assess/re-assess waitlisted students. Not sure this is the case, just a thought.
@dreamscape99 i reaffirmed my interest in interactive media arts and said that it was the perfect major for me because it didn’t force me to follow one interest. i also wrote about why i also wanted to major in english.
@imonthewaitlist i think it is worth noting that in the past tisch and the nursing school have released their waitlist decisions in late april. sending emails on may 2nd doesn’t seem too irregular because those two schools don’t traditionally hold to the university’s may 5th deadline. i can’t speak for stern though.
@MrElonMusk Hi! Thanks for answering everyone’s questions and providing so much info. I was wondering how common it is for students to be admitted off the waitlist without receiving an interest email (For example: if they’ve stayed in their waitlist form that they will definitely attend if offered admission)? I know it’s happened in past years, and I just wanna hear your (or anyone else’s) thoughts on that! Thanks!
@friedmermaid yeah that definitely seems to be the case based on what I read from NYU’s admissions blog on waitlist updates from the past. equally surprised about stern which is really unfortunate for me since im waitlisted at stern ahhaha. although, it is worth noting that I submitted my waitlist response 2 days before the deadline.
@dreamscape99 I had a couple of sentences on why stern is the only business school for me. the rest of my response more answered the question of what I can contribute to stern academically and professionally. so, a large majority of my response consisted of talking about things i’ve learned from some of my business ventures that i didn’t talk about in my original application. for the second waitlist response question, i wrote quite a bit about things i’ve accomplished since the time of submitting my app since there are actuallly quite a number of things i’ve done since.
Yes, I would assume so, but do remember that the waitlist form isn’t the only factor that NYU takes into account when reconsidering students.
Do you really believe that? I don’t. These schools are racing against the clock and against each other, hoping to meet their enrollment goals as soon as possible and with the best students (best as in the ones who fit the best) possible.
The issue with this conclusion is that not all who received the email has said so on this thread. Causation does not imply correlation.
@itsgoingtobeokay I do not know the exact answer to your question. What I do know is that I have never heard of a scenario where waitlisted students are admitted without the interest email, so I would say that it’s pretty uncommon.
If you didn’t receive the email yet, please don’t panic. It takes time. Everything in life takes time.
@MrElonMusk Very good point. Our sample size is fairly small haha.
Out of curiosity, did any of you receive an interest email AND submitted the waitlist response close to the deadline?
@MrElonMusk Thank you for all of your replies and do you happen to know anybody that received an interest letter from CAS because I haven’t seen any news from CAS.
does anyone know anyone who got an interest letter for tisch drama? this entire process is so stressful haha
@allycat231 Thank you! I got the “Waitlist Update” email at 7:04 am (west coast time) on Wednesday. I then got the “Immediate Response Required: An Update on Your Application to NYU” email at 2:00 pm Wednesday as well.
@allycat231 For which school/program did you apply? And congratulations.
Do they send the email at a set time, or do they send them randomly. I shudder every time my phone vibrates thinking it’s the email and I check my email frequently. Way too frequently. Do they email by groups every few hours or could I get a random email at 4:32 am.
a lot of people have been asking these questions so i am now answering them!
i posted yesterday that i received the immediate response email yesterday for the school of nursing.
when did i submit my waitlist form? april 17th
what did it say in the waitlist form? I talked about my passion for maternity nursing and how nyu puts a special focus on it. i also talked about certain classes i was excited to take and how those courses would make me a better nurse. i also talked about Clinical Simulation Learning Center at NYU and why i like it. and the diverse patient population in nyc. it was 305 words
stats? 30 act 3.8 unweighted 4.2 weighted gpa, i did show an update trend from freshman to junior year though.
