Hi,

I'm a Canadian senior hoping to get into NYU. I'm submitting my ED application tomorrow but just wanted to know your thoughts. My essay's pretty good; I got them edited by a lot of people and have gotten very positive reviews.

I took the SAT on October 2010 and didn't do well:
CR: 500
Writing: 680 with 9 on essay
Math: 710

I took AP English Language and Composition last year and got 4 on my AP exam. I also took AP Functions last year but didn't take the AP exam.
This year, I'm taking AP English Literature, AP French, and AP Economics (micro and macro).

My SAT II scores are:
Math level 2: 750
French with Listening: 720

My school doesn't do GPAs so I'm not sure what mine is but my total average is 93%. I took all the honors that the school offered in my 9th and 10th year.

I'm the editor-in-chief of my school newspaper committee and assistant editor of yearbook committee. I've been playing the flute and the piano since I was in 1st grade and was 1st flute in grade 9 and 10 band. I volunteer at a local senior home and created a new volunteer group and we play music for seniors. I'm also the president at my school's French culture and language club. I've been a member of other clubs as well like the prefect committee and world vision council. I also received lots of awards from my school's moderns department. I volunteer as a French tutor and got a job as a French tutor and a Math tutor last year.

Please let me know what you guys think of my chances of getting in! All of your comments will be greatly appreciated! Thank you all so much!:)

Oh, and I’m applying to NYU CAS for sociology.

If you’re applying ED I could see NYU putting you into LSP because of your SAT scores. I think if they did put you into lsp, it would be your best interest to accept that offer because:

1) LSP is really easy ( don’t forget rate my prof)

2) LSP gives you more free time than any other college to explore NYC ( or not…)

Neither of your two “reasons” to accept LSP is necessarily true at all. The course material is equivalent to what everyone else does in MAP, and the smaller classes mean you actually have to do the readings or whatever. It does, to an extent, depend on the professor though.

That critical reading score may hurt you; but I don’t foresee you being rejected. You may get into CAS or they may put you into the LSP. Good luck though!

You have a good chance. Your CR score is so out of sync with your other scores. Maybe an off day. I don’t think it would prevent you from getting in. NYU has an French house that you might consider.

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate your comments.
What’s the difference between LSP and CAS?

I’m also taking the SAT Reasoning again in December. Which other schools should I apply to?
I’m thinking of Carnegie Mellon, Boston University, Boston College, University of Michigan, Brandeis, Vanderbilt, Syracuse, and American U. Can any one chance me please?

Thanks again everyone! :)

Make sure the schools get the AP Lang score with or before your SAT verbal score.

I just submitted my AP score via common app. Is that okay?:s

Thanks for your advice, surferbeach!:)

…can anyone else chance me?:s

500 Critical Reading??? are u kidding. that will KILL you. if u don’t get that up to a 600 (which is still well below the nyu mean critical reading score) u’ll be screwed
