NYU Computer Science?

I am considering applying to NYU CAS for computer science, but a friend of mine who goes to NYU told me that NYU Computer Science isn't good. Is this true? I plan to work in tech so getting a top comp sci education is important.

there’s pretty limited info about this program at nyu

Hi! I’m an undergraduate majoring in comp sci+philosophy so maybe this can help. Take this into consideration: comp-sci was unranked at NYU 10 years ago, and is now #28. The university is definitely taking initiative, and alongside the already-prestigous courant institute, computer science is definitely on the rise. Believe it or not, but computer science students rank as the #1 graduates with the highest starting salary at NYU, with an amazing average of $89k starting salary. (Compared to finance at about $67k) As a freshman, I’m taking part in tech@nyu, an extraordinary club for everyone interested in tech. I got to go on amazing tours of awesome companies, which definitely helps gain exposure to the thriving tech-scene in nyc. I believe that there is a severe lack of engineering talent in nyc, and as most students in both nyu and columbia graduate in more of the social sciences, being a comp sci graduate in new york makes you VERY attractive. Anyway, from the classes I’ve taken so far, I can definitely say the department is solid. It’s not like UIUC or CMU in terms of history of computer-science excellence, but that is a very specific and otherwise irrelevant fact. The truth is that computer science, as a study, is already a field such that anyone could study programming in their apartment, and college is more-so of an aid for research and access to resources. For computer science especially, location and internships are key, and no place is better for those things than NYC.

NYU’s school of engineering and their computer science is very well regarded. Definitely look into that
