NYU Core Program

I applied to CAS but was accepted into the Core Program. I've done research so I technically know what it is, but does anyone have any personal experience with it? Do (did) you like it?

Hannahabbe, did u check off any place on the app that you would be interested in another program or were you just placed in the core program?

I just reviewed my common app, and yes, I did. I applied to CAS but said I would like to be considered for another option if my first didn’t work out. I’m guessing this is a “you’re good enough to be here, just not good enough for CAS” situation??

I’m also very interested.
I applied for Tisch School of the Arts Film, but was put into the Liberal Arts program. I am definitely grateful that I got into NYU. It’s just that it’s sort of unfortunate that I couldn’t get into the intended major as a freshmen.

The online info sounds great, but I want to know how easy it is to transfer to my intended major after 2 years.

I am not an LSP student, but my roommate is. I believe LSP is a wonderful program because all you do is get your requirements done in a smaller class setting. You also have some time to decide on what you want to major in. After your 2 years you transfer into to your intended major-No transfer application, you just jump in.

Also, for LSP, I think it’s 3 required courses for your first 2 semesters, then one more for your second two, then you go to your college that you originally applied to.

Why is it an exception for Film and TV applicants that we only have to take a year of Liberal Arts courses? I just thought it was interesting.

I believe it’s shorter for Tisch students because they have more classes to take for their majors than major in other schools.

i thought LSP is required for all students for first two years (except tisch maybe) and then, in your junior year you study your intended major

I got into LSP as well!! I’m actually really excited, since it’s the program I applied to in the first place. I have a couple questions that I’ve been having trouble finding on their website:
1–Can you double major?
2–Do they give AP/IB credit?

What if you don’t exactly know what you want to study yet?

I have also gotten into LSP when I originally applied for CAS. But I know that the core programs are REQUIRED and are based on the liberal studies.

But let’s say I wanted to do something in the medical/business/economics/etc intended major. Would taking this core program be a waste of time and money? Because the 2 years of the core programs are mandatory, and if I wanted to go into Economics for example, there are math requirements to make.

I’m sorry for the jumbled up question, basically I’m just worried about how rigid LSP is on LIBERAL studies only. Thank you!

I’m worried as well. When I was doing my initial research before applying to NYU, I understood the core as something all freshman go through. I was accepted into it and am now starting to get nervous. I am already certain about my major and fully intend to go to medical school. Will the core be more “harmful” in this case? I read that the core is somewhat of a placement that students who didn’t fit the bill for other NYU colleges get…

I want to study journalism, so I guess LSP is something I would have to anyways. Right?

No, they are two different things.
