I should clarify: NYU CS is good, but IMO not strong enough to warrant its cost. If willing to pay at that level, and seeking a prestigious school in the NYC metro area, Columbia and Princeton would be better choices.
ASU has rolling admissions starting July 1st. I assume OP is talking about Fall 2024 admission and has already received an acceptance from ASU, but s/he can clarify.
Ah…well then…the OP needs to have a conversation with their parents about college costs and annual budget for college. They need to see if NYU is within the price point their parents are willing to pay.
Is this worth it for CS? Probably not. But if there are other qualities about NYU that this student likes AND the cost of OK with the family…apply and see if you get accepted.
I’m a retired software developer with a bachelor’s in CS, and worked in NYC for a few years back in the '90s. I can’t think of any particular schools in the NYC area that are really well-known for CS, although most are perfectly respectable.
Programer here. You’re better off at ASU. Even ASU is going to be a stretch unless you have a scholarship to bring down the cost of tuition. Are you able to pay without taking out a mountain of debt? Do you have any more affordable in-state options? The nice part of CS is that prestige is pretty much meaningless. After about 3 years experience, employers don’t even ask where you went to school. Your credentials are going to be 100% hands-on experience.
