NYU decisions: letter or email?

Howdy all,

Just wondering a)if anyone has heard from the NYU graduate English program (PhD, but also MA), and also, b) for past applicants, whether the program sends letters or emails? I know that most schools will email accepted applicants to let them know they're in, and send formal letters a week or so later (so basically, email successful applicants and only mail unsucessful ones), however I have heard at NYU this may not be the case, and that the letter might be all you get? Anyone know?

They made final decisions on Friday.

Thanks!

Ugh. If you get rejected, you’re going to get a snail-mail letter in an unsealed envelope. I’m not kidding. UNSEALED.

Well, I guess that saves me having to go to the effort of opening the envelope and reading the denial  Anyone who has got in in the past have any info on how they heard?

unsealed snail mail is how i heard from NYU for history (answer was no). i had personal phone calls when i heard about NYU’s joint journalism/latin american studies degree (answer was yes). can’t tell you about english specifically.

LOL. too lazy to seal it, ahaha.

How do you know that the decisions were made last Friday? I applied for Near Eastern Studies, the deadline being January 4, and I have yet to hear anything. Not only that, but when I check the status of my supporting materials it states that NYU hasn’t received a letter of recommendation (which was mailed two months ago). I emailed them regarding the matter but I never received a response.

I’m starting to think that they opened my application, laughed, and then put it in the delete bin. I’m utterly lost waiting.

As for snail mail…if that’s what I’m getting it hasn’t come yet.

NYU is notoriously late. I’m not even sweating on their decision. If there isn’t an answer by March 30th, I’m calling.

According to the website below it appears that they’ve starting notifying people. Three individuals for Middle East Studies (MA) at NYU GSAS were notified on March 12 of acceptance (via email). Since that was the program that I applied for and I received no email, I’m guessing that’s a negative on my end.

Good luck to you all.

One of my friends got an email saying he got accepted AND got a scholarship! I’m getting worried now… :(

My D received her email of Acceptance to NYU on Monday of this week and we got the snail mail copy this morning (sealed). Now she had applied and auditioned for the music program so that may be different than the rest of you but at she heard from them. She should be able to find out today or tomorrow if any scholarships were offered as it takes 48 hours once opening your NYU account to have it all updated
