Hello! I'm attending NYU my freshman year! I can only afford it because I don't have to pay for room and board since I'll live in my uncle's apartment on Orchard street, so that saves me a lot of money!

I'm really, really afraid though that I won't be getting the same opportunities to meet people and make friends. I'm just really nervous. Will I be that alone without being in the dorms? =(

New York is a HUGE city. You’re going to make friends, don’t worry. There are tons of events to meet people at, and you can also meet people through classes.

I’m afraid of the same thing, and it’s nice to know that you’re not the only one going through that fear. I think you’ll make friends if you put in the effort into it, like putting yourself out there at events and classes and student organizations and whatnot.

And I think that it’s a REALLY good idea to stay with family, housing at NYU is so expensive!

There are lots of NYU students who commute. Put yourself out there right from the beginning, join clubs, volunteer go to every event you can attend. I think it takes a little more effort to make friends if you don’t live on campus but people do it all the time.
