I would like to know, a) what would you give NYU Dorms (overall) rating, 1-10 (1 being poor), b) which freshman dorm has the best atmosphere (good upkeep, cleanest, best rooms/lobby areas), c) which freshman dorm is closest to the academic buildings.

Also.. what are we allowed to bring to the dorms? And are the dorms safe, and in good areas?

And if you don't mind, how are you liking NYU? Any warnings, tips, advice? Thanks so much guys!

If it helps from an insider, Goddard is the absolute closest. It’s about a 90-second commute from your bed (if you’re on a lower floor and don’t have to take the elevators) to your seat in most classrooms. You may not like it for the ResColl requirements, but it beats all for location.

I’d rate them probably a 7 overall, most are fairly clean, relatively spacious for the cost, and a good way to live for the type of university we are.

For freshmen, I’d recommend:
Goddard (if you like location or want a tight-knit, engaging community)
Hayden (decent but not terrific rooms, amazing dining hall, and second-best location)
Founders (if you want newest/cleanest but don’t mind a 10-minute walk to classes)
Third North (if you want a large but slightly anonymous atmosphere that does not lack a party scene)

Not ranked in order, just listed by attributes. I wouldn’t recommend Weinstein or Rubin at all. Brittany is okay once you get out of September, the lack of A/C can be brutal in shared rooms.
