NYU Dorms

I know this may sound spoiled, but one of my biggest concerns about NYU is their dorms. Considering the fact that the school is in New York and real estate is extremely expensive there, I have this fear that the dorms are, essentially, closets. I want a relaxed environment to study...one with carpeting, maybe even a window. Does anyone know about this? Any pictures?

(I'm going to visit, but in the meantime...)

There have been several discussions here on housing. Do a search and I'm sure you'll find them. One note, though, unless you were accepted E.D., you won't get to specify a dorm, only whether you want traditional or apartment style.

actually, NYU has pretty nice dorms- definitely not the cement blocks you'll find at most other schools

does anyone know, if you're RD, can you pick a roomate?

I believe you can request a roommate on your housing application....does anybody know if NYU has same-sex or co-ed floors for on-campus housing?

i believe they're co-ed...from what i've read anyway :P

You can choose a roommate if you both specify it on the housing form. Housing is co-ed, room by room. In other words, one room guys, next room girls, and so on. Next year there's a pilot program where individual rooms are co-ed, guy and girl in same room, but that's not for freshmen and only by request.

well which is better traditional or apartment style?

so if we are RD, we have no choice in the dorm we get?

The only choice you get is traditional style or apt., not a particular dorm.

can someone explain the advantages of each?

I posted this thread for a reason. It has sources of lots of information on NYU, including housing, if you do a little work.

i actually looked on all those links, but only found 'pros' of each and there have got to be some 'cons'...
thanks for posting them, though
