My NYU Shanghai interviewer actually clarified this for me. So basically each campus views applications independently so each applicant has a chance of getting accepted into more than one. Applying ED 2 binds you to New York University and its Global Network. Since my primary campus choice was NYC and not Shanghai, if I were accepted at both and or rejected at my 1st choice(NYC) but accepted at Shanghai it is no longer binding and I have 25 days to accept the offer. @adreamer22@theniqqa23
@SquadGoals@theniqqa23 That’s strange, because I read when I was doing my ED1 application that if you were accepted to your first pick school, it is automatically binding to that first pick if you are accepted. Even though they still count your SH application (which is why the acceptance rate is so artificially low), they wouldn’t even truly consider you for admission unless your first pick rejected you. Also keep in mind that your interviewer most likely was an alum who did not have much experience in admissions other than interviewing and passing on information, so he may have given you some incorrectb information. Either that or NYU started doing something that’s contrary to what was indicated on the website and Common App.
And just to inform you – if you’re planning on majoring in business and they somehow DO allow you to pick one of the two, you should pick Stern with little to no scholarship over NYUSH. Business is a major where a school’s network and location is one of the most, if not the most important aspects of the education. Although both would allow you to receive NYU degrees, Stern is distinctly more elite than a business degree from NYUSH, and you would receive more internship opportunities/job recruitment opportunities due to its huge New York network (Unless you can speak both English and Chinese fluently, the university’s Chinese connections in business won’t do you much good in landing a high-quality job.) Of course take this with a grain of salt, that’s just my opinion on the matter. But you SHOULD know that a Stern degree, a NYUSH business degree and a Gallatin business degree are very different, even if NYU advertises NYUSH and Gallatin as “NYU degrees.”
Guys!!! I got the housing change! I applied for CAS econ and has an ACT of 31 and 3.81 unweighted GPA. I’m also 10% of class for weighted GPA. I think I have pretty strong extracurricular and I mentioned it in my essay too
Hello i am currently applying to NYU
I have a 3.5 GPA
Went to a trade school, maintained a 99 Average and graduated with a degree of mastery
graduated high school with around a 3.0 GPA (so like 88 or something)
Volunteered over 100 hours in hospitals, doctors offices, animal shelters, public library, and working with the mentally handicapped, performed 20 community service hours to graduate high school ( helping out my neighbor, cleaning gutters, mowing lawn etc etc),
Extracurricular: participated in a blood drive in my medical assisting class, participated in stage crew 2-3 times each year from 9-12th grade, varsity football, Phi Theta Cappa honor society member, high school band in 9th grade, participated in health knowledge bowl ( basically jeopardy but medical terminology and procedures) and placed 1st in counties and 2 in states, Certified Phlebotomist Medical assistant and EKG Tech, CPR certified and certified life guard
low sat score ( unfortunately 1400 or something) never took ACT, got a D in calculus but retaking it now
How are my chances and how hard to i have to work to apply
Hey guys, has anyone applying to a school OTHER than CAS received a housing change? Because I feel like only CAS kids so far have reported a change. Is this trend correct or are there any other school applicants (Gallatin/LSP/Stern etc) who have gotten a change?
You can be accepted to all the campuses you apply. In that case you will have to go to your primary campus of choice. The only way to waive this is through financial constraints. This will allow you look towards the second choice. If that doesn’t work out, you can back out in 25 days time.
Umm, nothing that great. 2070 SAT, 720 Physics, 740 Math. I’m an international student and we don’t have GPA but I’ve been in the top 1/8th this year.
ECs are good, not extraordinary. Pretty pleased with my essays, too.
What about you? @spikethecowboy
There was no mention of housing in last year’s thread.(It was mentioned in the RD thread.) But it seems that a change to freshman does indeed mean that you’re in.
Honestly, the whole process is a crapshoot. I’ve seen people with 2260 get rejected, and I’ve also seen people with 1900 get in.(my source is the internet, though. Who knows?)
If I did not receive a housing change, does it imply that I would be rejected? And also, will the housing status update in the next few days or weeks? I’m so screwed…
