NYU early decision II?

Is there any difference between ED I and ED II? Are they looked at any differently?

[Early Decision](<a href=“How to Apply”>How to Apply)

“Students applying as Early Decision candidates will receive their admission decision in December (Early Decision I) or February (Early Decision II).”

“Please note that Early Decision II is not available to students applying to programs in the Tisch School of the Arts.”

ED II is its own pool… Why would they mix kids who are declaring NYU as their top choice with kids whose preference is unclear? Why would they have an ED II deadline if they were just going to mix them with the RD kids?

yeah sorry, I just realized that.

Is this new? i thought there is only one ED for NYU?

Yeah I didn’t know this until a few hours ago. Idk if it’s new or not but it is an option now.

So when is the deadline for ED II?
If i do ED for example into Dartmouth and got accepted and still go for EDII. Is it possible to do so?

Are you asking about ED ii into dartmouth or to nyu? If you apply ED to dartmouth and get accepted you can’t apply ED ii for any other school. The deadline for ED ii at nyu is Jan 15th.

huh? then what is the point of EDing II?
I mean the deadline is way beyond the RD rite? (RD: 1st of Jan)?
Why do they put it in the 1st place?
By the way, so if i got accepted in ED II then i must attend nyu is it?

ED II and RD deadlines are both January 1st. The ED II applicants are looked at before the RD applicants. The “point” of ED II is for students who think NYU is a clear second choice for them and they got rejected or deferred by their first choice(where they applied ED I). If you get in ED II then you have to go. Applying ED II and ED I share the advantage of saying “I want to go to NYU over all other schools that are currently reviewing my application.”

so basically if nyu is your top top choice, its better to apply edI right?

yes, just know that it’s a binding contract.

ED-II and RD application deadline is the same Jan 1 but the Decisions date for Ed-II is Feb 15 and for RD is Apr 1. The point of ED-II is one that you have mentioned already that is getting rejected from your ED-I and since ED can be to one college at a time, but you could have more than one as your top choice hence ED-II. Also ED-II allows you more time to narrow down your top choices since one is done with midterm exams by then and been through university visits etc. I personally believe it is a great option to let a college know that they are their top choice after having had a try at another place. At the age 17-18 students should have the flexibility of more than one as their top choice because at that level 50 top colleges are all equally good.

So if i am applying to lets just say U of M early decision, can i do early decision II for NYU?? If i get into U of M i will go there cause its cheaper, but if i don’t and get into NYU i will go there. Do i have to go to NYU if i get in with the Early Decision II?

@nyusmith, you were able to view your FA message on Albert?

Did it really change this morning? Seems unlikely.

if I apply for ed2, can I still apply to others schools for rd?

yes
