********NYU ED Class of 2020 Discussion**********

^I’m anxious but at the same time I am keeping my expectations low.

Here is a detailed article about the well-known FA change.

@deller123 it’s also worth pointing out that most “exceptions” of this FA change are from international students.

Although NYU is need-blind for domestic applicants, it is need-aware for intl’ students, which means it can reject international students based on financial statuses.

I would imagine the “FA Change” happens when the Admission Team says yes and then deliver the files to the Financial Aid Department for consideration (we all know NYU has two separate divisions like that). While Financial Aid can’t change the admission decision for US students (need-blind policy), it can definitely say “nah this one is asking too much, reject him” for intl’ students.

Hence the “exceptions” of the FA glitch.

For the FA change, the theory is true, or at least it was for us last year. The majority of people received the change a couple weeks before Dec 15, but some got it a couple days before. since last year had 2016 in the change, this year, if you have “2017 self service access not available” in your financial aid page, it means you have the change and get in

@NYUFan101 Thanks for confirming this for us! When did you see your change?

It seems that FA “change” is not a glitch, but a part of the admission process. Please check it frequently and share the information with us.

I wonder on the last two days before Thanksgiving will anyone have that FA change. Although if somebody does and I don’t I’ll kill myself will anxiety and have such a bad Thanksgiving lol.

@NYUFan101…What about the change in the To Do List…is that true? I kinda think mine might not have had anything before, but now has a little paragraph followed by a little box saying there are no to do items. Was reading all of your classes CC posts…it seems like lots of you had changes before now. Am I correct? I don’t and am not sure if anyone does and no one one this particular thread has posted yet.

@nero64 The To Do List change that you are reporting seems to be the current status of everyone’s To Do List. Don’t think this is an indication of anything. If you see the article on NYU local there is a screen shot image of what the change looks like. I imagine we will start seeing changes Monday and Tuesday. Some people reported getting changes up to a few days before being accepted though, so this is definietly a waiting game…

Why was last year’s ED discussion so much more active than this year’s?

@Crzcorgi I’ve been wondering the same thing… Hopefully as the date approaches people’s anxiety will push them to creating an account to join the mass anxiety that is College Confidential (something like 20 pages alone were added to last year’s discussion solely on decision day).

@Crzcorgi Also, I’m afraid that it was quickly dominated by Stern hopefuls. All NYU applicants are in this together! We need more input from CAS and Tisch applicants. If anything, we need more people to give us notice on any FA changes they have seen!

So I applied ED1 without naming a secondary school of choice…

But I NOW realize that, in my desperation, I’d probably attend NYU no matter what program I apply to that gets my foot in the door. Is it too late to notify them that I would like to be considered for LSP or something in case CAS doesn’t work out?

Unfortunately, the to do list change isn’t true. You guys will notice tons of small changes on Albert coming up. A lot of us made ourselves crazy last year digging too deeply into small changes. Unfortunately, the only change that matters is the FA change. I got my change around 2 and a half weeks before decision day.

@Crzcorgi…was wondering the same thing. Wish it meant fewer applicants lol

@deller123…thanks. for which school did you apply again?

@nero64 I’m actually an aspirational Sternie myself… How about you?

@Crzcorgi I didn’t list a second school of choice either and am starting to regret it also. The one thing I am keeping in mind though is that I am willing to ED for Stern, but not ED for a second choice (likely CAS would have been my second choice). I know you get stuck on this dream of what your future will be like at NYU and now that we are getting closer to decision you realize how easily it could all be crushed. My logic was that if I was accepted to the college and not Stern I would go there in the shadow of my dream of Stern. It really comes down to a personal choice though. Some people want the NYU lifestyle that badly. Just remember LSP is a really really expensive way to carry out the goal of a NYU lifestyle, without the same quality of education (and quite honestly appears to feed off student’s desperation).

I also, on a more strategic note, was afraid of putting a second choice. My thinking was that it would make it more “all or nothing” for them to give me my first choice (I was afraid they would place people who were on the edge of admission for their first choice into their second choice since this still gives NYU a chance to have you matriculate). Whether this is actually how it works is beyond me though…

Hey!
I applied to NYU Gallatin ED1 and just want to know what my chances are to getting in.

I was going to apply to Stern but I really fell in love with Gallatin. I really want to study business, fashion, liberal arts, communication and a whole bunch of stuff so I thought it would be the best fit for me. I went to visit in January and I loved it. It’s a prefect for me and I can’t see myself anywhere else!

What do you guys thing? Do you think that I’ll get in or just generally my chances for getting in?
Thanks!

@deller123 That is the exact reason why I did not at first put a secondary school of choice; I felt as if they would reject me from CAS under the pretense that, hey, this guy is willing to go somewhere else.

But now I just wish I put it there anyway. I would still happily go.
