@Crzcorgi I was thinking the exact same!
@Crzcorgi same!
I was considering applying to LSP as well (am considering, actually, since I’m applying ED2), but I feel that LSP wouldn’t give me the full NYU experience. I’ve heard that the LSP students that started their studies in the NY campus didn’t have half of the events other students had during Welcome Week, so they just stood there wondering around doing nothing… I don’t know if I’d be comfortable spending that much money and moving to the US to get a lower quality education without having an American college experience. Idk, I feel I would miss out on so much…
Am still considering though, just because I want to go to NYU so bad!
@cali1998 Welcome to the discussion! I’m not too familiar with the difficulty of Gallatin, however, your extracurriculars are insanely impressive (own clothing line!). Your GPA is definitely low (they list the typical UW as a 3.5+ on their website) and although you have solid test scores, they don’t make up for the lower GPA. It is my understanding that Gallatin is suited to students like you how have a very range of well pursed interests. As long as you used the writing sections to articulate how all of your extra circulars come together to motivate your desire to apply to Gallatin and how it’s a good fit, I think you could have a shot for admission. Of course, applying ED also doesn’t do anything to hurt your chances. Best of luck! Make sure to keep us updated with your results.

@whsh1313 Strong match. Amazing test scores, great GPA, and good extracurriculars (maybe lacking a “hook”, but all show leadership and longer term commitment).
@deller123 Hey thank so much for helping out! I know that my GPA is kinda low but Ive heard that for gallatin that they don’t look much at your grades in comparison to your writing and what you’ve done outside of school. Like in the past they’ve denied people with like 2300 SATs and taken people with 1900s. I want to to fashion business so I think that would be the best place for me. For my essay I wrote about my how my clothing and cultures has influenced me to become the person I am today, my business side and my fashion side. I asked a couple of my english teachers to read it and they were pretty impressed and loved the essay. For my supplement essay, I write about what I aspire to do at Gallatin and how I see myself in that environment. I talked about my clothing line and what it has taught me.
I really hope I get in! I’ve wanted to go to NYU since freshman year but my GPA dropped a lot junior year after taking this really hard math class that I wasn’t cut out for! I hope everything works out for you!!
@deller123 would a hook be that i’m multiracial? (chinese, italian, and hispanic)
@whsh1313 Honestly it’s so screwed up that we have to deal with the fact that race can change admission chances. Being multiracial is by no means a “hook”, however, it adds to the list of many things someone can bring to a campus (a unique cultural perspective and thus diversity). Nonetheless, if you leveraged your unique background and the story behind it in your writing, and how you hope to share it with others and similarly are interested in being in a community of people from diverse cultural backgrounds, this will absolutely help show a fit for NYU with their global focus.
@cali1998 Sounds like you did everything you possibly could to present a strong application! It was very smart to emphasize your unique extra circular of owning your own business. If NYU doesn’t work out, have you considered looking at fashion specific schools (Parsons, Pratt…)? I know some people really want the flexibility of being part of a university while studying the arts, but those schools would still allow you to live in NYC and explore your interest in fashion. I’m having a hard time myself with realizing that if I don’t get into NYU, there aren’t really any other strong options to study business in NYC. I envy your ability to have strong back-ups that are still in the city.
Who knows anything about the importance of test scores? I mean, obviously they are important. But I have a 1900 and although I feel like my other qualifications are stellar, I am afraid that score will get me rejected. Thoughts?
@natiann123 I’m also afraid because of my 2000 test scores… But I mean, NYUs average is a 2020, and stern pulls that average up big time. I personally think (and hope) that if NYU wanted to admit kids solely based on their test scores, they wouldn’t have that average. After all, they are the private institution that received the highest number of applications last year
Based on last year, while test scores are important, they really aren’t the only factor in getting in. Depending on your school, they really just want to see enthusiasm and something to set you apart from the rest of the applicants. If you showed enthusiasm, have a unique quality, expressed those qualities in your essays, and have good scores and grades to back it up, you should be fine. They really want to see well rounded people
Just a note to everyone who applied to an alternative school at NYU. I asked the head admissions officer and he said if you ended up getting into your second choice school but not first choice, you can actually transfer into your first choice school after one year of study and still graduate in 4 years. Of course, you may be denied but he lowkey told me that it was easier to get into a school as an internal transfer. This is playing the system, but just thought some die-hard NYU fans might want to know this.
@iywang
is it too late to email admissions and inform them that I’d like to be considered with an alternative program/school? I did apply ED1.
i chose the silver school of social work as my second choice and im regretting it a lot. My primary is CAS and i should have had steinhardt as my second preference
@Ivywang Keep in mind that admission officers work for the marketing side of universities. They are more than happy to improve upon the truth to make it seem better than it really is. Yes you can do internal transfers. Do you run a high risk of being denied an internal transfer and being stuck graduating with a major you had no desire to purse, yes! It’s important to keep in mind there are so many amazing universities out there and if NYU doesn’t give you your first choice, then you should look for other universities that will! I know we are all drawn to the NYC lifestyle, however, there are other amazing urban schools in this country and we can always end up in NYC upon graduation (only four years later).
Speaking of that… what schools are everyone else considering if NYU doesn’t work out? I know it’s hard to think of this now, but with only 15 days after NYU decision to final deadlines I’m trying to have everything (essays and supplement statements) ready to go. I’m considering Emory, Rice, Vassar, Northwestern, Drexel, and possibly Boston University.
@deller123 I’m very aware of that. I wasn’t encouraging it, I was simply making the information available to those who might find it appealing. If that doesn’t apply to you then you don’t need to pay it any mind. Everyone has a different reason for applying to NYU and if that’s because they want to go to the city - then that’s their prerogative. I am not in a position, nor is anyone else here, to tell another person what is a legitimate reason to want to go to a certain school at a certain point in their life. It’s their life. If they just want to go to NYU, and it’s their money, then so be it - I was just outlining their options. Personally, however, I appreciate your voice of reason!
@Crzcorgi Not 100% sure - but I think it’s too late. Consider calling up your admission officer. Best of luck!
@deller123 I’m from California, so in a few days I’m applying to USC, which is like NYU but in a closed campus and the city is not as great. I know a lot of NYU fans like me love it for the lack of campus (or as NYU likes to call it, open campus) and the great flow with NYC. So NYU top choice, USC second.
But USC is also damn hard lol. I’m applying to 3 UCs this week and they’re all from good to great, with an in-state tuition. So if I’m moving out of state, it’s only for NYU
