********NYU ED Class of 2021 Discussion**********

Am I better off not submitting ACT/SAT scores since it’s optional? It would weaken my app. My gpa is within range for NYU and I have great ECs and essays

I want to get into Gallatin, but should I put down LSP for my second choice?

I don’t know if this is going to help anyone but I was accepted to Stern ED 1 for Finance with these stats:

Race/Gender: White Female from a wealthy suburb of NYC

High school: Large public school, top in the state

ACT: 32 (34 superscore)

GPA: 3.8 (weighted I believe, 3.6 freshman year, 3.8 sophomore year, 3.9 junior year, so far a 4.1 for senior year)

APs: 5 in total for junior year and senior year, 4 and 5s on all of them

Extra Curriculars: took an undergraduate finance course at Georgetown (sent NYU a transcript with A as the final grade), a Microeconomics class at Brown University, a Global Banking course at NYU, President of my school’s DECA club and Model Congress, head of fundraising at a local philanthropy group, Varsity Sailing for 4 years, working 2 jobs all of senior year, created my own non profit support group.

Letters of Rec: I had 3 letters of rec from teachers that loved me, along with a letter of support from a Stern faculty member

Essays: both of my essays were looked over thousands of times, and were very strong.

I had a chronic disease at the beginning of highschool which affected my grades significantly, which I think is why I was able to get in with a lower than normal GPA
I hope someone finds this useful!

@dankcollegememes

Your GPA is on the high end, not low end for NYU - Avg GPA this year was 3.5 and out of those accepted (for 2016), here is where their GPA fell:
3.00-3.24: 10%
3.25-3.49: 23%
3.50-3.74: 34%
3.75-4.00: 29%

Thank you for the help! I am actually interested in the liberal arts program do you mind telling me about it a little more? I would love to hear about it from an actual student! Additionally, you wouldn’t happen to know the differences betweeen the The Liberal Studies Core Program and the Global Liberal Studies Program ? @sofialicir

I got accepted into Stern with a Stern Scholarship! I have to figure out which dormitory to choose and put in order, but I have absolutely no idea.

Can someone give me their opinion!! So my sat score is on NYU’s lower end and i’m wondering if i should send in my sat subject tests scores to make up for it. I scored 710-US History and 680-Math 2 but i’m not sure if this is good enough! What should i do!?!!

Going for ED II + HEOP. CAS AND LAS

HIGH SCHOOL: SMALL HIGH SCHOOL
High School ranking - below average.
Average new SAT of High School: 820
SAT: 1340 (Verbal: 600, Math: 740)
Unweighted Average: 93.68 - Should be higher next semester
Class Rank: 7/267
AP: 5
DE: 8
Ethnicity: Asian.

What is my chance?

So I’m thinking about applying to steinhart for media, culture, and communications, but I was also wondering if I could put LSP down as a second choice or can you only do that if you are applying to CAS. I was ev n considering putting CAS undeclared as third choice because I ultimately just hella wanna go to nyu. Should I do that though?

Can someone chance me?

@thatonegirl which NYU school and major are you applying to?

Accepted first choice to CAS in NYC as a politics major

I’m a white female from upper middle class Orlando. (Second generation Polish American on my dad’s side)
3.6 UW GPA, but I take all IB and AP, and have taken “extra” credits online with FLVS and Pamoja. (Basically having about 34 credits instead of 26…)
31 ACT Composite (I was sick, but didn’t retake because 36E)
10/12 on ACT Essay
Great essays and writing info
My recommendation from my English teacher was stellar - he loves me so much.
Done lots of music programs, been nationally recognized for singing
On television production team at school
200 plus hours at my church for community service
Lots of clubs and fundraisers
Dance

That’s about it, but I’m a unique kid with a unique story: mental illness struggle and triumph, interesting activities, big dreams, tested to have an extremely high IQ by a psychiatrist, projected to be possibly 160 or higher.

I think that just about it for me. If anyone wants to hit me up and ask for advice, I’m here. Good luck to all! Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah as of this evening!

Applied ED II.
Have an 89 gpa but it’s been going up each year (80,90,93,95 currently) so it’s a good thing I guess?
Only 1240 on SAT (600 reading 640 math).
Did DECA, took a class at college in NYC for International Marketing and have a recommendation from professor there.
Immigrated from Russia in January 2014.
Speak Russian and English and in the process of learning German and Spanish.
Attended a tiny high school in the middle of nowhere in upstate New York and my class rank there is 32/98.
Also, I’m only talking 3 APs now during my senior year (Psych, Chem, Gov) and haven’t taken any before.
Got 103 on TOEFL (not sure if that’s even necessary).
Not sure if I have any chance of getting accepted but I thought I’d regret it if I didn’t try so yeah.

Hi @Eminem99,

Congratulations on the acceptance! Quick question, did you apply to NYU’s BA-DDS program via Early Action/Decision? Thanks!

@Whoppy Thank you! I applied to the program ED.

Hey all New Yorkers or potential New Yorkers!
Merry Christmas!!!

I sent my application to NYU Stern for Finance on the 23rd of December, and haven’t received an email from NYU with an NYUID yet. On my CommonApp it says that the payment is still being processed. Is it possible that this is because of the holidays? And would it hurt my chances if my payment isn’t processed during the holidays (which means after the 1st January deadline)?

Thank you!!

@Suj170499 Most people don’t get the NYU ID email until about a week or so after they submit their application. I think mine took about ten days. The common app also takes some time to reflect your payment status. You should have gotten an email that your payment was sent when you sent in the application. As long as you got that email, i think you should be good. Give it a few days. It will not hurt you as long as you clicked the submit button before the deadline.

@koreanstudent Thank you for the comforting response! I did receive the payment confirmation email.

Hey, guys! Does anybody know if I would be able to pick a major during my freshman+soph year under the NYU Global Liberal Studies Program? Thanks! (and merry christmas!)

@jingleheimer I assume you’re talking about the Liberal Studies Program; Global Liberal Studies is its own 4 year major. For LSP, you can choose your major and take classes towards the major of your choice during your first two years. From what I understand, you can’t take as many as you would if you weren’t in LSP because you will have many LSP required core classes to take, but it won’t be a big difference.
