Reflection
Strengths: My essays showed what type of person I am, and I started them early so I could edit them for a couple of weeks. My grades were pretty strong (weighted GPA: 4.4). I made an art portfolio, and I showed consistency with my extracirriculars through high school.

Weaknesses:did not have much business experience, low SAT scores, etc (can’t think of much rn, but I’m sure I’ll think of more later)

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Like I said before, I think my essays were pretty strong because they showed the type of person I am. I think my grades helped me a lot too, and my passion for my extracirriculars were reflecte don my application. I think NYU cares a lot more about passion, so if your grades aren’t the strongest, they may be willing to overlook it if you have strong essays/passion.

Where else were you accepted: Northeastern, Seton Hall, Rutgers (still waiting on UVa and UMich)

Essays:
My Why NYU was verrrY specific. my advice for Gallatin is know what you want to study and get the message across why you can’t do that anywhere else. (also i talked about my small home town in comparison with nyc)
Common App essay was fairly unique in terms of essays. Just be yourself and write as best you can
Teacher Recommendation:
Counselor Rec: we were friends so i think it must have been pretty good
Additional Rec: one was my chinese teacher of 4 years who graduated from nyu. the other was teacher that helped me create the stem program. All in all, very good.
Interview: nope
Other
State (if domestic applicant): ME
School Type: private/public
Ethnicity: white
Gender: F
Strengths: definitely my interests and essays
Weaknesses: i thought my GPA and rank was eh. and the SAT was sort of middle of the line. Also, my ECS were mostly basic high schooler things (no creation of business, writing of major novel). Also my entire app was very sciency but I was applying completely non-science related so i was worried about that.
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: basically I think it was all about my NYU essay and why I wanted to go to Gallatin. It was probably really unique even to Gallatin and they probably realized that.
General Comments: I was accepted to Gallatin with 41k (scholarship and pell grant), so so much more than I anticipated. I also plan on doing work study for another 3k! My family is definitely middle class but I have 4 siblings attending college. Also I had to fill out the noncustodial due to living in two houses. I think part of the amount is relative desirability. Just make yourself as unique and desirable as possible I guess. Good luck to everyone applying!

FA Change and Housing Change: had absolutely nothing whole way through. However, the hour before, I’m pretty sure the housing changes to freshman. I did not check, though. So DO NOT worry if you haven’t got any changes. Did not apply for aid.

Why I think I got in: Recs were good bc I was close w/ teachers and counselor. Essays I thought were very solid. And most importantly, my extracurriculars. I think my ACT was slightly below the AVG, but I think the rest of my application made up for that.
