Nyu ed ii !!

Hey. Im applying to NYu with a 3.2-3.3 ish gpa. Im very interested in marketing, media, and entertainment.
I screenwrite and write songs on my free time

Honestly, im interested in alot of things and i feel nyu is a place where it has all my interests.

I have tooken 6 honors classes and 2 aps senior year
Honors english (sophmore level and junior level),us history (, pre-cal, world history (junior year), French 3
AP world history, Ap statistics, (dropped out of Ap Cal b/c i was on the cusp of getting a C in that class, no need to study hard for a class that i felt like the hardest i can get was a C or even worst)
Alot of EC's
First generation student (haitian)
own a business
was accepted and attended a summer program at my state university for business

Im not taking the SAT's
I've taken the ACt and plan on takin it again to get to the NYU act averages of last year
If im takin the ACT, do i have to take sat subject tests?

I want to apply to stern, but know how hard it is to get in. Stern is a top business school and at that summer program I was in I realized that I enjoyed the marketing core of the program the best.

Steinhardt- b/c of the media, culture, communication program. Easier to get into but not so prestigious. but I can probably tackle all my interests with that one degree

If i get into stern i can minor in other programs like the business of media, entertainment, and technology, and the previous mentioned MCC. In MET i could take courses in business of film, music, and media.

If i go straight into steinhardt, i dont knw if i could get that strong business core of courses that stern provides. But does that matter?

What are my chances and What route should I take?

I would appreciate alot of feedback

p.s other schools im thinking about are Fordham, Baruch, Rutgers ( all three campuses), Seton Hall, St John (so could u also give my chances for those schools as well. :})

THX

3.2 - 3.3 unhooked to Stern is not happening. What’s your grade on the ACT, and what is your business?

If your GPA is that low, you’re not going to get into Stern. Stern is very numbers based and easily the most competitive school at NYU. It’s going to look really bad that you dropped out of AP Calc. Yeah it might have been a C on your transcript… but you dropped out towards the end so I’m assuming there is an F, or a “drop” on your forms. All schools do it differently. At my school, if you drop a class after 15 school days it’s an automatic failure.

Not only is an F going to be damaging that late in your high school career, but the fact that you gave up isn’t going to look good to an admissions committee. Nothing you can do to change it now, but they’re going to notice that.

First generation and minority gives you an upper hand, and depending on the business you run and how many hours you put into it, that could also help you.

Your test scores are really important at this point. If you have taken the ACT you do not need subject tests, or anything else. You need the ACT OR the SAT OR 3 subject tests OR 3 AP scores. Look on NYU’s website.

Don’t apply to Steinhardt assuming that you can just do an internal transfer to Stern. If you go in with that mindset then you might put yourself through a year of school that is useless to you in the end, and you’ll be screwed being left with no options. But if communications is what you really want, Steinhardt is the place… Steinhardt also has music business, and that sounds like something you’re interested in.

I think it really comes down to how you write your essays, your letters of recommendation, and your ACT at this point. Your overall course load, you didn’t specify, but I’m going to assume it was not rigorous. And I hate to sound harsh, but if you want a chance at NYU you need to proofread, because they are not going to admit someone who cannot use the proper form of “taken”.

I hope the best for you, but you need to step it up if you want a chance at admissions. Just the reality.

w.e we’re online im sry *taken
and my course load was extremely rigorous which explains my low gpa
i heard stern accepts students in my gpa range but really little like 20 ppl
and i got a C in ap cal …but i knw where it was heading b/c i really didnt feel like taking it. i figured i can take it at college and plus marketing doesn’t use calculus. calculus is just a hard math class that tries to see how much u can understand nonsense that you wont need in life unless your a mathetician

With an attitude like that you won’t succeed in Stern. You said you were aiming for a 28 ACT earlier. You need a 32 to be just in the Stern range. And I doubt a 3.2 x 20 students got into Stern.

Is your GPA on a 4.0 or 4.3 scale? Weighted or unweighted? How did you do on your AP exams (or are you currently taking them)?

How competitive is your high school? What’s your rank?

Im currently taking ap courses
im in the top 50 %
i converted my gpa to a 4.0 scale, my school uses a 5.0 gpa

and im not being rude or have an attitude…i just know its a reach and i came on this site to confide on other ppl my fate…im sry its very stressful

It’s a super high reach. What’s your business that you own, and what math are you taking this year? Did you take the Oct ACT? Result?

i own a lawn care business
im takin ap stat
and i did take the ACT but havent got my scores im guessing a 26 composite
not high i know
im gonna push for the 30’s

Fix your grammar. Chances are low, especially since it is Stern. You will need far more outstanding extracurricular activities, better GPA, and a higher than average Stern applicant ACT score since your GPA is lower than the average Stern applicant.

Top 50%? Are you really applying to stern?

Well, your GPA is low, but with 33+ on your ACT, you have a pretty good shot. It’s hard to say without the test scores.
