@nyu427 thanks so much!! I’m sure you will too, especially since you have a high GPA. I want to take the Sept. ACT to try to crack a 30, but I was wondering if NYU or any colleges care how many times we take the ACT? Or is there even any way they can see stuff like that?

Oh and what’s the average writing score for NYU. I got an 11 on the one I’m sending. I got a 12 on one of my tests, but the subscores were lower than the one I plan on sending. (Still a 29 composite.) Is this 11 on the writing portion going to help me out. I’m applying as a journalism major…

Should I retake a 2170 for Stern?
Any advice is appreciated

Texas represent over here! I don’t feel like writing my whole app out but for those curious souls:
(applying to Stern with Global Business/Chinese/Finance)
UW GPA: 3.71
W GPA : 4.11
ACT: 32

I totally hate the SAT. It must die. Anyone looking to get their scores up try the ACT- it tests material you learn in school not tricks and logical reasoning like the SAT.
But anyone else a little freaked by the 20000 UNDERGRADS?!? Totally huge- worried about being swallowed in the city! It’s my only drawback (well, and trying to get in of course!)
Best of luck!!!

you’re in and you know it.

ED 1 this fall too!

wanted this since i can remember (: tisch, acting major.

academics, i think are good. SAT score: 1980 and SAT II: Math 710 and Chinese 780 (Not asian ethnicity)

ECs: quite a few, a couple of leadership positions. most of my ECs are in theatre though, 2 sports, charity organizations and NHS.

I’m just super nervous to send in my international audition by video. Its the best i can do, i just hope i make it. 3 kids from my high school have gotten into tisch in the past 2 years, HOPEFULLY that ensures the quality of the theatre kids at my school.

this is the most nervous and excited i have been ever. lets just hope i get in.

what do you think are my chances? looking at some of you guys, makes me super nervous. you all have a real good chance! (:

Hey everyone! I’m applying EDI for Journalism, but my GPA is below CAS’s average so I’m content if I get accepted into LSP! I know how competitive the application pool gets each year so I am just hoping that my SATs, extracurriculars, essays, ect will help me out. Also, I’m from Southern California!

I just can’t believe we’re all going to know if we get accepted by the end of this year. That’s pretty scary! D:

This is my school’s stats on NYU acceptances from Naviance:

@schh3105 your academics are great, Expecially considering you’re interested in Tisch acting major! I don’t know much about international students, but I know that NYU enrolls the most internationals (around 14%) and I think that having to submit your audition over video won’t hurt you at all; they know you can’t fly to NYC to audition.
But I think youre a good shot (assuming your academics are on par with your SAT).

@correkid ah! You can’t know something like that based on a GPA and ACT. There’s a reason I didn’t post my SAT (then proceeded to rant about it…) the first time I took it it was a 1900- which is a good score, just a little low for Stern (and my friend who got basically the same SAT score as me took the ACT and made a 34! I do hate him now, but the ACT is just more fair… Or easier. I haven’t figured that out yet)
But back to the point, NYU considers a ton more than academics. They place a ton of emphasis on the essays, and I am a wholly sucky writer. I made a 8 on the writing portion of the ACT and you made an 11 and 12!!! Standardized tests only say so much, and once you’re in the “acceptable pool” your ECs and Essay/Recc have to actually get you in. A 29 puts you in there for NYU, and I’d bet your essay writing will kill it

@thawowtso you’re so right. I mean, I think you probably have a good chance at getting in.

I have a question about LSP. I’m totally fine with being put in it, but can we study at the Washington Square campus or would we have to choose an international campus???

Oh and is anyone willing to post pics of their school’s scattergrams on naviance? I think those might be helpful for all of us

I’m in the process of filling out an application for another college (rolling applications, so the sooner the better), and it asked if I have any family that has attended or are currently attending the school. I know alumni & legacy is good, but I didn’t know that having a family member currently attending mattered, does anyone know if it does for NYU? My brother is going to be a junior there this year…

NYU is a low reach for me, but I’m applying ED1 for a less competitive (at least for undergrad) school/major (SCPS, hospitality management) so I’m not ruling it out. I visited in April & it was a dream come true…
I’m a military brat so after living behind guarded gates all my life, I love the open campus layout, and I’m graduating in a class of 26, so I love how big everything is.

Also, I’m pretty sure NYU DOES superscore ACT. It doesn’t matter for me because I bombed the same sections (ughmath), but let me see if I can find a source… I’m almost positive they do.

Okay, I can’t find anywhere on NYU’s website that they superscore, and I know these aren’t the best sources, but all of these sites list NYU as superscoring the ACT, but obviously contacting NYU directly is a million times more reliable. Are you all submitting your ACT scores? I got a 30 ACT (can’t retake, my school isn’t offering again until October, which is too late for ED1), and a 2050 on SAT. I think the 30 ACT looks better…

@iwannasuceed Retake. I am saying this because for stern, that is on the lower side (I believe) 2200+ would be phenomenal!

@schh3105 it sounds to me like you have a good chance :)

@HelloParis I say the same thing to people here-it is so exciting and frightening that we will all know if we will be in at the end of THIS YEAR! Thankyou for posting the naviance application history, the stats from your school are interesting and perhaps a bit more promising than those from mine :)

@correkid I’m not sure about the average writing score for nyu, and I was wondering the same thing for LSP. I don’t even care if I get put in LSP. I just want to go to NYU so badly it doesn’t even matter ahhhhhh!! About the ACT, 3+ times of taking it doesn’t look very good, because they DO see how many times you take it. I think you should take it in September, because it seems like you have potential to get much higher than a 29, especially with the whole summer to study. Thats how I feel at least. September will be my third time I am taking the ACT, and my last

Here’s some more general stats from my naviance on NYU:

http://i48.■■■■■■■.com/1zwn7yu.png

@nyu427 they can really see how many times we’ve taken it? Oh no. I’ve taken it a total of 5 times, so I’m guessing that’s a huge strike against me. Will they know the actual scores of each one? If I’m submitting the first test I took, I’m sure they’re going to think I didn’t improve.

@tniemann According to NYU admissions reps, they DO NOT superscore the ACT, only the SAT. That being said, I’m pretty sure you can only send one score to them, otherwise it might be considered superscoring since they know the other scores.

Anyone know if we should send multiple scores??? Or just the highest? Also, will a 26 subscore in reading kill me, even if I got a 29 composite?

Also, I was considering not taking a 4th year of science. I cannot fit it into my schedule and I think I am going to take another semester of art so that I will have a full year of art. Anyone know if this will hurt me? I know they require 3 but recommend 4…

@Correkid, yikes… oh well.
I haven’t really thought about how important the subscores are… I got a 30 composite, but a 26 math (even though I did best on the SAT math section…) and I’m not too worried about it because I’m not majoring in anything math-related. So I think you’ll be fine as long as you’re an otherwise strong applicant and aren’t hoping to major in anything english-related.

I’m taking a fourth year of science, but I think it matters more what level you got up to. If you only took up to chem, I’d take another year. If you got up to physics (I’m pretty sure the normal 3 years) I think it’s fine (again, as long as you aren’t applying for a science related major).

I’m applying as a journalism major…so that reading score might hurt me. My english score was a 33 though. and I have a LOT of journalism awards and accolades and am having my journalism adviser write me letter of rec. So hopefully that will make up for the low reading score?
