As part of the application process, she had to send a self addressed post card to Steinhardt along with a CD of her art portfolio. The art department sent the post card back to us to indicate that they rec’d her portfolio. But so far receipt of her portfolio has not been checked off on Albert.

I don’t know if it is the same for you since I applied for MT, but today I got an email from Chris Andersson, the Head of Admissions at Tisch that said,

"Regarding the application checklist on NYU’s Albert system, you will find that the ARTISTIC REVIEW COMPLETE box is not checked. Not to worry.

You are receiving this email because you attended your artistic review. It is therefore complete. Admissions has the results.

The box will eventually appear as checked (perhaps as early as next week) but until then, don’t fret."

What do you think my chances are for CAS? PLEASE ANSWER!!!

You’ve posted your stats like 5 times ITT the past 24 hours. A little much? :P

You have decent chances. SAT is good but your GPA is pretty low. I’d bet you’re in if your essays are good.

Nobody here, however, is really fit to chance anybody else here; we’re all waiting to see what NYU thinks of our own application.

I applied ED1, as well, and am also quite nervous after seeing so many incredible stats. I applied to CAS, Psychology

GPA: 3.6 unweighted, 3.9 weighted, top 10% of class
SAT: 1900 - 690 writing, 560 math, 650 reading
Extracurricular: 15 years of ballet, 4 years of teaching ballet, 2 years of graphic designing and art
APs: 2 last year- AP English Lang. and AP US History. I got a 5 on the AP English test and a 4 on the APUSH test.
Senior Schedule: AP English Literature, AP 2D Art, AP Government, AP Calculus BC, Psychology and Sociology, Technology, Anatomy and Physiology
4 years of teaching ballet
1 year of semi-professional photography
Only person in the highest level of my ballet company
President of my school’s GSA

I also have a learning disability that I have managed to work around.

^ Honestly the best thing we can do now is wait and see. Keep this in mind though - that CC has a lot of smart people with incredible stats. It is not an accurate reflection of the true applicant pool, perhaps the top 10% of it, at least in my opinion. You have a fair shot. Good luck.

Danceallday, I think you have a good chance. Don’t be nervous! Your GPA is right at the CAS average but you have a very rigorous course load.

Being president of a GSA is a huge EC as well.

Your only weakness is your SAT score to be honest. It’s not terrible, though… it’s only about 100 points under the NYU average. If you spent a good amount of time on your essays I wouldn’t be surprised at all if you were accepted. Applying ED helps as well.

Hi guys what do you think my chances are of NYU Stern ED1?

American Citizen living in China (do american citizens compete in different pools than with international students?)

GPA: 3.71 unweighted (don’t do weighted at my school)
AP Courses: Senior workload AP Literature, AP Calculus BC, AP Chemistry, AP Government
Other AP’s excluding senior year: AP Microeconomics, AP Macroeconomics, AP Psychology, AP Language, AP US History, AP Chinese, IB BHL Chinese (All AP’s are 5’s)

SAT: 2320 (Math: 740, Writing: 800, Critical Reading: 780)

Extracurricular Activities

Microfinance foundation I started that raised around 30,000-40,000 RMB, held financial training seminar that I personally headed teaching rural woman how to manage money, sponsored farmers, worked in cooperation with Credit Ease (a credit company here in China), etc. (my strongest EC in my opinion, was published in the Shanghai Daily)
Internship with Credit Suisse (investment bank for those who are not familiar with it) was a basic comparables analyst learned the twists and turns of a prospective financial career
Founded my own basketball club with a friend that teaches kids basketball around the migrant areas, organizes games with them etc.
Habitat For Humanity trips to Sri Lanka and other places
Model United Nations on planning committee that organizes conferences for our schools, delegate for school for continental conferences
Community Service (i have probably around 200 hours total)
Went to Africa to build homes and visit a local school called Jacaranda to teach them math.
JV Basketball (might win some awards but don’t know)
Math/Economics tutor for school
Math competitions -won some distinction award for CMC
AP Scholar with honors

hmm… might be missing some more but these are my main ones. I hope that my internship with credit suisse will help

Teacher recs: should be good, got it from my econ and lang teacher and my lang teacher said I was one of the best students in her class
Counselor Recs: probably generic but shouldn’t be detrimental
essays: i think they aren’t bad, got some feedback and many of them said they were really good but I’ll leave that up to admissions officers

I’ll post more info if I think of any. Please feedback me! I really wanna get into Stern I have a burning passion for finance and I hope that shows through my EC’s. December 15th is coming so soon!

@danceadally, hmm with your arts focused EC’s maybe you should’ve gone to Tisch? in my opinion if you can demonstrate one passion for something colleges would prefer that to having over 9000 extracurricular activities with no specific focus. Your SAT won’t hurt you because it’s on par with the CAS average and your GPA is good for CAS. Not to mention that ED will boost your chances substantially. I think if you hammer the essays and show your passion for whatever field you’re interested in, you’ll have a good shot

danceallday*

fdsjaif,

The first thing that caught my eye was your internship at the investment bank and the microfinance foundation. While colleges don’t look too much into internships because not everyone has the opportunity to do one over the summer or have to get a summer job, it is a great that you managed show your passion for Finance and will increase your competitiveness in getting into the school. And the microfinance foundation is quite a feat, did you send them the article?

SAT score is clearly something you don’t have to worry about. You’ve obviously taken the most rigorous courses possible and have a quite decent GPA, especially keeping in mind that its unweighted. I think you have a strong chance of being accepted.

Stay cool, dude.

15 days, guys!!!

not sure if i can do it…

me neitherr…

Just called the swim coach, and he told me he might have some word from the admissions office friday or saturday and i am meeting him on saturday because they have a meet near me… ARGH

One of my best friends just got accepted into her top college today <3…I’m now even more excited and nervous!!!

NYU just requested for my IB Predicted Grades! :(.
It’s not that good though… do you think I will still have a decent chance for Steinhardt with an ACT score of 31 (one-time), 32 (composite) but a relatively low IB predicted?

Thanks!

^ How did they request the IB predicted grades, darkk520?

They emailed my counsellor a few weeks back for my predicted grades

They emailed my counsellor asking for my predicted grades. My counsellor is faxing my predicted grades to them.
I’m scared cause my predicted grades aren’t that good but my course difficulty is the highest in my school though.

I would absolutely LOVE to go to Tisch for dance; however, I only dance recreationally now, due to a degenerative genetic tissue disorder. Behind ballet and art, psychology is my third love.

My SAT scores are dreadful. I’m praying and praying that the admissions board won’t penalize me too harshly, especially with my AP scores.
