NYU ED1 Discussion Thread

Does anyone applying to BA/DDS program??
I submitted my app Wednesday and I can’t wait to hear admission decision!!

I just submitted! T_T But I highly doubt I’ll get into Stern… Where are all you Stern hopefuls going to go if you don’t get in? (As in RD choices?)

@nyjetsknicks I hope so! haha :)

also I saw that you were asking about whether to submit first quarter grades or not; I spoke to one of the directors of admission and she advised me to submit mine because my first quarter ended in late-mid october but she said she tells students whose quarter ends after november 1st to not worry about it.

ok good… my first quarter is ending on november 7th. my junior grades are a much better representation of me than my first quarter grades are.

Does anyone know if they consider self-reported AP scores? I sent my SAT and ACT scores, but I don’t want to pay for my AP scores. I’m not going to be able to afford college by the time I’m done paying all the fees :/

No school requires AP score reports for admission. You send your AP score reports once you accept admission so you can receive credit for your exam scores.

I know but I thought good AP scores can help admission?

Yes… that’s why you can report them on the common app. Schools verify their authenticity once you matriculate and send them official reports.

All right, thank you! I just wanted to make sure since some schools don’t consider self-reported ones. Thanks again!

I just submitted my common app and payment for Stern =) I really hope I get in

Oh god… I just completely finished my app (edits and all). Not emotionally ready to hit submit yet! Think I’m going to wait until tomorrow morning haha

Good luck to all of you who submitted today. I truly hope we all get in.

So much for submitting it tomorrow… just hit submit.

Holy crap… so terrified haha

@hanlier2 okay thanks for letting me know! Mine ends November 9th, so I guess I won’t submit them

NYU Supplement short answers:

1 Why NYU?

If STERN: talked about how NYU STERN can shape me to become a CEO and founder of an entertainment business.
If TISCH: talked about how my passion about acting can contribute to tisch department… (still need editing & suggestions anyone?)

2 need help for both

3 A clash between Catcher in the Rye and Star Wars (for tisch)

… i really dont know what to write for Stern :/

It seems like you want to do acting/drama. Steinhardt has a media and communications major. But Tisch seems like a better fit vs. Stern, especially because your ECs will get you into Tisch a lot easier than Stern. Go for your passion.

Uh… no. You need to send your AP scores. Schools require that they receive AP scores from CollegeBoard – not self-reported.

Regardless, it is only $10 and it will definitely help with NYU. If you have two/three 4s or 5s, it will make your application stronger. The same applies to 670+ or higher in SATII subject tests.

And if you are annoyed over the cost of fees for college applications, I would love to see your reaction over the mysterious $1100 “registration fee” every semester at NYU. ;)

^^D applied and was accepted to 7 colleges including NYU, Barnard, Brandeis and GW. She only sent her official AP scores to NYU after she sent in her deposit. They were rec’d the summer before she attended. Not one school asked for an official AP score report.

Monoclide, you’re wrong. Sorry… schools do not require AP reports during college applications. They’re self-reported until you matriculate.

eljamas is correct. Self report, send only if the school says they want them for admissions, which few do. I am sending mine to NYU, however, because you can send a math and other score with SAT and it counts like a subject test. Only at NYU, as it is their testing policy.

Not to defend the $1100…but most schools do tag on student services fees. They cover expenses like health services, etc. It is important to really add all these fees when figuring out the bottom line of how much a college really costs. Some schools hide these fees as part of tuition, others break them out separately. Some charge for registration fees, etc. You need to research each school carefully and then compare.
