NYU ED1 Discussion Thread

Depends, Londra. I’m assuming you’re not applying to Tisch because you made no mention of studying art in college. You’ll probably be accepted to any school other than Stern, with Stern being a low reach.

guys… did you find the “albert” site? are the boxes where it says about official transcripts and standardized tests unchecked?

Yeah on Albert, all of them are unchecked for me.

Edit: I just noticed this however, “Please be aware that while items may be in our office, it may take several weeks before credentials are actually processed and reflected on this checklist.”

My test scores and application fee are checked. Still waiting on my transcript though.

only application fee is checked for me. still waiting for the others… i’m counting down to december 15th! anyone else?

Don’t do that. It is a waste of space when you can expand on yourself.

And, to be honest, I still think NYU has their GPA mill in that they take your individual courses and then re-evaluate your GPA.

So you can have a 3.7 from a 4.0 in Gym, and a 4.0 in Cultural Technology (or some ******** class you took to boost your GPA), and only a 3.0 in Calc. They’ll skim the fat and take your main five (math + science + english + history + language) and recompute your GPA, and in this case, it will be a 3.0.

Everything is checked off for me but I’m still not sure if my teacher rec has been received. There’s no check box for that…

Dispelling the rumor now: NYU, along with most colleges, does not “recalculate” GPA. I have emailed admissions many times about their grading policy. There is no way they take 40,000 applications and rescale them. What they do is glance over the grades, what your high school gives in the mandatory high school profile (how they grade and rank) and then they look at your grades in each class. They can tell your GPA range and make a decision.

guys, have you sent them your transcripts in hard copy?
they have only the transcripts which were uploaded on commonapp, and on commonapp is written that transcripts are donwloaded by college

and application fee is also only checked for me :frowning:
maybe they are processing scores or something else xD
has anyone except tesmar applied to Abu Dhabi as first or second choice?

heey… sorry for triple post… but i have just seen that transcripts box is checked… only standardized tests are left xD :D

i havent done any of them… only IB xD :D

Hey all just wondering my chances…
Female, Asian/White. I applied to NYU Tisch Film & TV BFA

SAT Reasoning Test w/ Writing: 670 Critical Reading, 520 Math, 640 Writing and 8 on the essay (I took them 3 times and this was the best I could do)

ACT w/ Writing: 30 composite score, but I took it on October 22nd and am worried they wont get this score in time

GPA (weighted/7 point scale): 3.9697

Class Rank (Exact): 41 out of 275 (at the most academically competitive public school in my region)

All AP Classes (Current and past): AP World History, AP US History, AP Government and Politics, AP English Literature and Composition, AP English Language and Composition, AP Biology, and AP Statistics (the only exams I’ve taken so far are APWH, APUSH, and APEL&C. I got a 4 on English but a 2 on both of the history exams)

In addition to my high school, I’ve been attending a secondary specialty school for a four-year Mass Communications course. This school is selective and I had to apply in eighth grade in order to be considered for enrollment. I will graduate with honors in June in addition to graduating with honors from my regular high school.

I have a strong resume that reflects:
-Summer internship with an advertising firm
-Work Experience (paid) including videography gigs such as filming and producing local wedding videos
-Extensive volunteer/community involvement
-Club involvement with leadership positions (Vice President of National History Club, BETA club officer, Captain of Forensics Debate team, President of local branch of National SkillsUSA organization, etc)
-Athletics: Track and Cheerleading (Four years varsity)
-Honors; nominated for Civic Seal and Governor’s Early College Scholars. I was ranked 10th in the country including Puerto Rico at a national competition for Extemporaneous Speaking. I was awarded third place at the state level competition for Pre-Produced w/ Special Effects Public Service Announcement video. I have received multiple silver medals for exemplary scoring on the Television Production Technical exams at state level competitions.

I have letters of recommendation from my guidance counselor, math teacher, and media production teacher. I know you can only have three, but I also mailed a letter of rec from the CEO of the advertising firm I interned at along with my transcripts and Early Decision agreement just in case.

As for the essays and portfolio, I’m fairly confident. My essays were strong and personal according to the teachers and peers who reviewed them, and I spent a lot of time on them. For the creative submission I wrote/directed/produced/etc a short film, and I can honestly say it is the best work I’ve ever done. My media production teacher told me that he had a student a few years ago who got accepted to Tisch Film & TV, and that he thinks my film is much better than that student’s.

Any feedback? I would appreciate any response, I just want to know if I have a chance

Who else has seen this post on Albert? I’ll be frantically refreshing my email at 5pm on December 15th.

“We expect that all admission decisions will be sent via email on December 15th after 5pm (Eastern Standard Time) for Early Decision I candidates and on February 15 after 5pm for Early Decision II candidates. Admission decisions for Regular Decision candidates will be sent sometime on April 1st after 5pm. Admission decisions will not be available anywhere on this website. Decisions will not be released over the phone until 5 days after decisions have been released via email.”

Haha i saw that…scary stuff. 37 days!

Your act in range of nyu’s stats, your gpa is a bit low, your honors look good, especially for what youre applying for, ec’s are really good because not only do you have a lot of them but you also show that you took them seriously and spent a lot of time doing them and becoming a leader.
Overall i’d say you have a pretty good chance, it’s probably just all going to depend on your essays/portfolio for tisch

what do you think my chances are? i posted my stats above elijamas’ last post

I think you’re chances look really good, what’s your unweighted GPA? Also, your honors and scores look really good. Almost makes me sad to compete for a spot with you. Good luck!

Ah thank god, thank you whowantsme for telling me i have a chance! I honestly am really worried that my bad sat scores are going to knock me out of the competition entirely, but oh well. im not really sure what my unweighted gpa is, my guidance counselor didnt tell me! youre really nice haha that made me feel a lot better, ive been freaking outttt. good luck to you too, i hope you get in!

guys, did you send your transcripts in hard copy to the NYU?
i uploaded them only on commonapp xD

My school only does it where we send a hard copy. We also do teacher recs that way. It kinda bugs me though because even though I had everything in on Oct. 4th, my teacher recs still haven’t gotten there, or at least they haven’t filtered them through yet.
