NYU EDII Chances

Hello, I’m currently a rising senior (white, female, from a middle class family) from Florida who is seriously considering NYU. My unweighted GPA is low, but only because I fell really ill at the end of my junior year and struggled to maintain my health and decent grades. Please let me know if you think I have a shot of getting accepted into NYU, and if you think applying under Early Decision would improve my chances. Please be honest. The application fee is upwards of $70 and I want an outside opinion as to if I actually have a chance of getting accepted.

I’m interested in studying History and/or Sociology, and potentially minoring in Communications.

My cousin attended and graduated from NYU, but since he is my cousin and NOT immediate family, I’m not sure if that counts as legacy or not.

My essay should be very good. Would anybody please give me a rough chance on me getting into NYU?? Also, if I am only to pick 2-3 recommendations, who should I get them from? If you have any recommendations of who to get my recommendations from, I’d love to know! Thank you

Get recommendations from whoever knows you best. No person on this forum can tell you who will write the best letter. It’s up to you to decide who knows your leadership skills the most, and who will show off your personality. As for your chances, your stats are very good! There is no guaranteed yes or no until you get the letter/email as you know. I think you have a very good chance, if your scores on the standardized testing increase so will your chance of getting accepted.

thank you very much! yeah, my standardized test scores aren’t the best, but I’m hoping to shine through with my essay, supplement, and rec letters. @BreBre235

Based on what I have seen from just these stats, I think you’re a competitive candidate for NYU! If you’re applying EDII, there will most certainly be a smaller applicant pool, and thus you will have a higher shot at standing out! I really hope you get your ACTs up (you mentioned you’re waiting to hear back), because they are at the 25th percentile for applicants. If you manage a 29 or 30, I think (from these stats) that you’ll be set!!! Make sure that your essay is truly unique and that it shines if you’re applying EDII, because you have a chance to really knock 'em dead! Good luck!!

Out of curiosity does NYU ED 2 take into account first semester senior grades?

I’m also curious if NYU ED2 looks at semester grades - I’m thinking not since the deadline is 1/1 and for us, the semester isn’t over until end of January.
