Hey! I'm just curious as to what my chances are at NYU, Emerson, and Fordham

SATs: 1210 (660 Verbal, 550 Math)
SAT IIs: Writing 690, US History 620
GPA: 3.7
Rank: approx. 60/490
Quite a few extracurriculars
Great essay/recommendations
Lots of AP classes

I think your SAT might be a little low for NYU, but it sorta depends on which NYU school you apply to. If your GPA is good, which it is, and you did well in AP classes, then you have a shot. You might want to retake the SAT II's, and get a third test in. However, as far as Fordham goes, I think you're in there. Emerson, I don't really know a lot about that, but I've heard it's pretty competitive.

To elaborate further: I took 3 APs Jr. Year (English, US History, Bio) and 4 this year (English, Economics, Spanish, Environmental science). I also co-founded a community service club at my school and ran varsity track for 4 years among other things. Again, I don't know if these things help but I might as well give it a shot.

NYU is a crazy school. Their admissions decisions are impossible to predict. Gallatin is easier to gain admission to than some of the schools, and ED there gives you a much better shot. I think you have a strong chance at Fordham and Emerson.

I have a quick question...is the essay taken into heavy consideration when applying to NYU? Some schools don't give as much as attention to the essay and I want to know where NYU stands on that. If anyone knows, please share the info!

I think it kind of depends on which school at NYU you're applying to. I have heard that schools like Stern (where I am applying) are my stats-based, while a school like CAS or Gallatin probably cares more about ec's and essays. The essay is very important though, and I would work hard on it if I were you.

Yeah, I'm hoping my essay is going to help me out. I worked really hard on my essay and I was told it came out really well so I hope you're right! Thanks for your help.
