NYU Essay

Hi
I've decided to use the following topic to write my essay for NYU:

"The best writing is often very personal. All kinds of experiences-serious, funny, unexplained, fleeting-can influence our lives and help make us who we are. Tell us about a person, place, or event in your life that has particular meaning for you, and why it is important to you. We'd especially like to hear about someone or something that has affected your life that may not have affected or even been noticed by other people."

My question is:
A) Should I write in such a way that I try to promote myself for the major I want to take (finance) and desguise it (per se) as a personal story (e.g. "I always knew I wanted to work in investment banking...etc")

or

B) Just write an honest essay with disregard to that.

Secondly,
Is writing on a religious topic a no-no. I have an essay drafted about a trip to Israel which was life-changing but it contains a strong Jewish element. Would this be a turn-off?

B)

“I always knew I wanted to work in investment banking!!!”

Who is going to believe that?

If your trip to Israel was personal and life-changing, so be it. Be careful that the essay doers not turn into the “life-changing trip” cliche. Be personal, detailed, honest, revealing.

wait, is there an essay supplement to the common app? I thought there was just short answer questions..

NYU has its own app, separate from the Common App
