Hello all. Applied to NYU as a transfer student for Fall of 2017. Posting this on all the transfer forums I applied to (that exist) for reference. Will report back come decision day, maybe even live in the suspense as it approaches.
22YO white male from Michigan
Also applied: Michigan (accepted), Michigan State (accepted), Stanford, Harvard, Columbia, UPenn, Cornell, Brown, Vanderbilt
Program (1st/2nd/3rd choice): CAS (Neural Science) / Gallatin / Silver
Objective
Currently Attending: Community College in Michigan
Credits: will finish with 88, which includes 12 from APs… I expect somewhere around 50 to transfer due a semi-difficult social work program I am completing that is nontransferable, as well as the APs being taken out.
College GPA: 3.95 (UW), 1 W in Fall of 2013
College course load: Sporadic courses from fall of '13 to winter '15. 17 CH’s in fall '15, 21 CH’s in fall '16, 22 this semester (never received lower than an A-, haven’t received A- since winter of '14)
Two gap semesters in winter '15 and winter '16
HS: Meh Public School in MI, ~1500 students, sends 2-3 students to Michigan every year and a student to an Ivy once or twice in a decade
HS GPA: 3.2ish
ACT: 28 (one and only sitting in March 2011)
Subjective
EC’s: Work as a “full time” school bus driver in addition to the 22 CH’s I’m taking, internship at residential juvenile delinquency rehabilitation program, another job in leadership role, the gap semester jobs and travel, serve on board of directors of local youth baseball league, run umpires program for the league for last three years. Passionate about them all.
LOR’s: I doubt they get any better than what they may have wrote. I didn’t see them, but the two professors absolutely loved me. Both hold PhD’s for whatever that’s worth.
Gap explanation: Really good. Solid reason, involved travel and learning
Why Transfer: Liked this essay the most, but it’s kind of supposed to be a lay-up for a CC transfer lol
Supplemental Essays: I’m a perfectionist, and I felt like there was something still to be said, but I know I’m a really good writer, so shrug
Due to what I would expect to hear from FA if I was fortunate enough to be accepted, I do doubt I will end up at NYU, but you never know!
I think this is the only legit active thread I found for Fall 2017 transfers (other than this other one) and idgi, Spring 2017 and the 2016 transfer threads were much more active?
Anyyywayssss I got rejected a month back from ED2, so I’m planning to transfer for Fall 2018 and I’m of no literal use here, but I’ve decided to keep an eye on the kind of people getting accepted here, just so I can get a better idea of what kind of people are getting accepted since and idk if I can make a possible “trend” off it, and maybe learn something/get some advice from seeing how it ends up for everyone here, so good luck everyone! When do decisions come out for all of you?
@dino12487 I’m not a transfer applicant but I do know that transfer applicants for fall receive their admissions decisions on a rolling basis through May as their deadline is April 1.
Hey guys!
I am currently going to an ACC school. I’ve been planning this transfer for a while and I’m glad to see the thread has finally been made.
High school:
GPA around a 3.3, I don’t think anything from high school matters much since I’m applying for my Junior year
College:
-Sophomore
-Major: Currently finance, applying for Economics
-69 Credits total
-have all the requirements for the Econ major except for Calc II (will take this summer)
GPA: 3.54, had a 3.78 last semester taking 18 credits
Involvement: Solid, two E-board positions, involved in a few clubs and I’m being trained in the music department by a well known jazz guitarist
-Recommendation: One from my Jazz guitar teacher, and American Literature professor (received an A+ in course)
I notice people like to mention their internships on this forum but I’m confused as to how you wold incorporate them into the CommonApp. Other then schools that accept resumes, is there something I’m missing?
@va2pittsburgh You can put them where your extracurriculars go.
anyone else already submitted their applications
I submitted mine last week
is anyone applying as a sophomore/entering as a sophomore?
@dino12487 I am but NYU is soooo expensive I don’t know if I’ll go even if I get in
im applying as entering sophomore
@rik123 do you mind sharing your stats and info on where you’re applying?
