NYU Fall Transfer 2016

Hey, I plan on transferring (into sophomore) next year and was wondering my likeliness of getting in since I hear that there were a lot of people accepted this year. Anyways these are my stats:

SAT: not sending (1860)
HS GPA: 92 (weighted)
Uni GPA: probably 3.7+
Extracurriculars: Dumbeldore’s Army (charity through the Harry Potter Alliance), Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance, Photo Club, I also volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House
HS Extracurrics: French Club, Music Honor Society, National Honor Society, Social Design Club, and I also photographed multiple events. I’ve won multiple awards from Scholastic Art and Writing competition and performed at Carnegie Hall 6 times with my choir. (I don’t think I’ll be putting these on the Common App though)
Recommendations: probably one from my Sociology professor and another from a TA that teaches the 101 class I’m in, but I’m not sure if that’ll look dumb or not
Study Plan: I’m applying to Gallatin and want to do a mix of film, biology, psychology, and music. (sounds crazy, but i have it planned out)
Essays: 10/10

I’m also applying to Barnard, USC, and Cornell. I applyed to NYU CAS undeclared in my senior year ED2 and was rejected, so will that affect anything? Thank you so much. (:

I expected this thread to have more people…

Hello! I’m also considering transferring for Fall 2016!

I think you’ve got a solid chance getting in? Your interests are very diverse, so I think if your essays articulate your plan well enough, you should be a competitive candidate for Gallatin with all the different majors you want to combine?

Can I ask where you’re attending now? And your ACT score – I figure that’s what you’re submitting, right?

Also, where did you hear that more transfers got accepted this year than years past? I’d like to know more haha.

I guess I’ll list my stats (Transferring into sophomore). Applying to CAS for Econ

College GPA: 4.0
High school GPA: None. Took the I.B diploma. 31/45
SAT/ACT: Not taken (test flexible)

Extracurriculars:
Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu Jitsu Bronze medalist, Float the boat challenge,Played for Manchester United soccer club ,Photography and film club,Recycling club,Teacher’s Assistant in Chemistry,Breast Cancer awareness charity,Helped organize International day ,Math tutor

Work experience: Paid accounting internship and Paid management consulting internship
Recommendations: Most likely from my economics and english professors. I have a great relationship with them
Essays: Still working on them but hoping for them to be a 9 or 10/10

Thoughts?

@Transferdood I say that you have a pretty solid chance!

Your college GPA is stellar and your extracurriculars are wonderful. I don’t really know how the testing flexible policy works with transfers, so that’s something you should research - I’m planning on sending in my ACT scores again. Overall, it looks like you’ve got a great shot!

Your work experience should really helps your chances too ~

@littlemissbang Thanks!

I’m really worried about my IB especially given the competitiveness of Economics at NYU. Do you mind posting your stats? If you’re not comfortable doing it publicly, just PM me

@Transferdood haha I don’t mind posting my stats since I already made a thread >< (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/19176877#Comment_19176877)

^^ That explains my current dilemma… because I’m still not completely sure if I’m going to commit to transferring… but here’s the short version:

SAT: 1960 (probably will not be sending)

ACT: 31 (one sitting), 32 (super scored)

HS GPA: 4.08/4.00 (W), 3.31/4.00 (UW)

UNI GPA: 3.79/4.00 (3 A-s, 2 As)

HS EXTRACURRICULARS: Varsity golf (4 years), Teen Court Student Attorney (3 years), Speech & Debate (4 years), Big Sisters (2 years), National Honor Society (2 years), Spanish Honor Society (2 years)

UNI EXTRACURRICULARS: Member of Ottonomous Productions (on-campus student film club), member of Korean American Student Association, member of Work in Asia

INTENDED PLAN: Major in MCC, minor (or major… I haven’t decided) in marketing/business, possibly minor in East Asian Studies as well (I want to work in the Korean entertainment industry along the lines of public relations and marketing). EDIT: I actually learned that Stern has a Business of Entertainment, Media, and Technology minor, so I’ll probably end up picking that up. Also, I learned that CAS has a Korean minor too :3

Hey guys I’m currently a NYU student who transferred into CAS in Fall 2015. AMA! and hope I can be of some assistance to y’all!
