Hi,
just a few hours ago I received an email saying I was admitted to CAS :)
Soooooooo Happy!!!!!

But I do have questions about the financial aid

On the Financial Aid Summary link I see the categories, Accepted and Offered.
Is the Aid Year Totals for Offered the money I'll be getting for the year?
And my Accepted totals is $35,550.00 and Offered Totals is 59,360. Is this amount relatively low, in the middle, or high compared to the aid other people get from NYU?

Sorry, I edited my post. Switched the numbers for offered and accepted

My stats were not great. 3.5 UW and 2180 SAT.
It does seem like I received relatively big amnt. Feel great
Thanks for answering my questions guys

I was accepted into Tisch School of the Arts. My offered was 64k and accepted was 22k.
So, the offered is what I will be able to claim once I commit? Is that for certain?

Okay. Does anybody know if its possible to appeal for more? Thesenumbers includes my FAFSA score right? Like I dont get that NYU package plus an extra from FAFSA, do I? The number they gave me they found by using my FAFSA…that right?

Tisch is my absolute dream, and I got in; it’s just so expensive.

(2) NYU doesn’t really grant FA appeals. At best, you can try to present them with your FA offers from other schools and try to bargain with them - i.e. Tell them you have X amount from ABC university and try to see if they will negotiate aid with you - of course make sure you don’t lie to them, that would be bad.

Accepted/Offered: $30,050
Aid Total: $59,360

They basically offered me half tuition and expect me to pay/loan the rest, which is a problem. My mother is a single (disabled) parent who lives off of SSI. Taking on that much debt for her is not an option, and for me, I’m not sure if it’s worth it. My teacher told me to call up the Office of Financial Aid and try to “bargain” with them. Scholarship wise, $30,000 a year is a hefty chunk to come up with. Not really sure what to do at this point, I have until March 15 to decide.

Doesn’t matter, nobody will loan you that much money for college. The larger loans you were offered are PLUS loans, which are loans charged to the parents - and as you note, that clearly won’t work for your family.

You, as an undergraduate student, can borrow up to $5,500 per year with Stafford Loans and that’s it.

Hmmm since the PLUS loan is charged to my parents, I think I have a chance in convincing them to take it. THey can pay that off over time…hopefully.

Am I the only person who does not have access to financial aid ? On ALBERT it still says “Award access not available”… ? (I was admitted to Stern)

I’m in the same boat, Thomas29. I was admitted to Tisch. I tried calling the FA office 10 minutes ago but nobody picked up, so I sent an email. I’d recommend doing the same.
