I heard that
NYU does NOT meet 100% of demonstrated financial need...

IS THIS TRUE?

Ugh...

Are they really bad with fin. aid...?

I heard that

IS THIS TRUE?

Ugh...

Are they really bad with fin. aid...?

Yes, it is true that NYU will not necessarily meet 100% of demonstrated need.

And, yes it is (generally) true that NYU's aid is horrendous, though the few people with huge scholarships will always disagree with that.

:( I only got 20k

sigh

I only get around $5,000.

And my family's expected contribution according to the government is half of that much.

wow. i really really hope that if i get in... i get a scholarship or something...

how much are their scholarships usually worth?

yup fin aid is horrendous.
they dump you with a big loan and say that they have met your need.

*waits for some guy to chime in and say how he got a million dollar scolarship blah blah blah

To add more kindle to this pile, don't expect much. I auditioned for Tisch as a transfer at the 11th hour, but recieved a 4k scholarship, plus 5.5k in workstudy that I had translated over into a grant, instead of working and pocketing the money, and that was a GOOD financial package for NYU. Other than that, it was all loans.

ya the financial aid sucks, especially since the school is sssooo expensive, but its worth it, IMO, going to a stae school is realativily cheap, but not much of a education, comparatively

Depends on who you ask, but it was definately worth every penny as far as I'm concerned.

im only a freshman in map classes, but I feel for the money thus far, it really has sucked academically. I have alot of fun here, but my professors are pretty crappy and I could probably find better ones at state colleges. If you're really concerned about money, id transfer over a year or two, because with map classes and such you arent going to get the cream of the crop. On the other side of the coin though,I heard the teachers get much better as you progress towards major classes, and also if you transfer, it'd be harder to make friends.

What is your major Matt?

"also if you transfer, it'd be harder to make friends."

Again, for what seems to be developing into a regular pattern, I staunchly disagree with this, and just about everything I've read from you regarding the social enviornment at NYU. I was a transfer, I knew quite a few transfers, I never had any trouble making friends, neither did they. Of course our experience will not, nor should, speak for all, but you make some really quantifying statements regarding this aspect of NYU, and yet you've only been at the school for what, a couple months right? The ease ,or difficulty, with which a student will accumulate friends at NYU has everything to do with at what stage they entered into matriculation, and everything to do with their own personality. I personally found NYU to be one of the best places, socially, that I'd ever encountered, and making friends alot more possible than in other places, and situations I've been in, due simply to the size, and variety of people the school, and by extension the city, offers.

Are talent scholarships for Tisch extreemly hard to come by?

Tisch kids have higher tuition than everyone, but we get some of lowest aide from the school. A talent based scholarship based soley off of your audition is rare I believe, and certainly not large even if it's not. But the upside to Tisch is that, and many people aren't aware of this, Tisch has over a 100 scholarship programs under its wings that students can apply to independently.

so, does NYU give any good scholarships (like half-tuition or more) based on merit?

(i'm applying to tisch if that matters).

jaquen im in stern

and i justify the making friends statement with the fact that myself and most others made a majority of their close friends during the first few weeks of school...but I suppose your right with me not being able to speak for transfer students;however, I always see them complaining on livejournal and such.

Livejournal? I don't give credence to most internet whiners. I find it extremely difficult to understand some complaining about the difficulty of making friends at a school like NYU, in a city like New York. If you can't carve out a decent social life in New York City, you can't carve out a social life period as far as I'm concerned.

yup i know a few transfer friends and they seem to have no trouble at all making friends

"so, does NYU give any good scholarships (like half-tuition or more) based on merit?

(i'm applying to tisch if that matters)."

bumping that question^

Half tuition for a Tisch student? No.
