i am hoping to attend nyu (gallatin) in the fall 2008 as a transfer student (i'd be a junior standing) from a small private college in the northeast.

went to a noteworthy public high school:
2.6 gpa
school newspaper writer (2 years)
FBLA member (3 years)
1180 SATs

yeah pretty bad i know, slacked off majorly...

after my sophomore year at college, I will most likely have a 3.1 to 3.3 unweighted GPA.
i founded the schools radio station.
write for the newspaper.
environmental club.
3 internships - newspaper, major alt rock station, NBC news
more than 200 hrs of comm service

my older brother graduated from nyu, not sure if that helps.

now i know my chances are pretty much nil for Gallatin, much less any school at NYU. i was wondering if anyone could offer any advice on things i should do to increase my chances...even just a little bit.

My Daughter is looking at a batch of schools, at this point NYU is her dream and she was told by a professional college counselor (paid) that it's by far her biggest stretch. This year it's expected to be tougher than Michigan...maybe Cornell just because they're expecting SOOOO many applications (it's just super popular these last few years) She has a weighted GPA of 4.3, maybe 3.78ish unweighted. Vast majority of classes are High Honors and AP. Her combined SAT is 2040, her extra curriculars stellar (she's actually taking classes there this summer to show extra interest. Her big hold-back is a mediocre Math SAT (550) and word is NYU just doesn't need to compromise cause they have so many "total package" kids. I still think she has a fighting chance. I have never been a nay-sayer on the boards, but I know a local kid who didn't get into ANY schools because she (and her parents) had set the board unreasonably high. If it's your dream school...realistically..it's still achievable. You will most likely have to Get straight A's on high level classes senior year, and THEN go to a community college and work you're butt off...maybe you can transfer?
