Does NYU give better aid and merit ED?

NYU Poly is the engineering school of NYU. The merge is pretty much 100%. It’s buildings aren’t located near the Washington Square location however, they are in Brooklyn.

Most talent based merit aid is awarded in the spring. So if you apply ED you will not be considered for it. Not sure about academic merit aid (which is very selective for those without need anyway.) But if you think of merit aid as a marketing tool used to lure top students, why should most schools use it on a population that has already committed?

To those of you who have made it through the first day, you’re a survivor. The freshman will soon understand that the only way to get through the the year is to continually blow grass in your dorm room.

LOL good advice

Hey Jackhammer25! I wanna apply to NYU ED1 this might be stupid but can u tell if you think I have a chance… 3.76 Weighted GPA and my SAT was really bad (1670) but I’m taking the ACT and I’m aiming for a 25-27. Also Idk if this will help but i have taken a couple courses at NYU this past summer in the Precollege program and received A’s in both classes.

I’m applying to CAS btw

I was wondering how is Stern when it comes to consulting. I know it very prestigious when it comes to finance and banking, but is it as prestige for consulting?

@dwarnock95

Your scores suck. GPA is decent. Those SAT and ACT scores simply don’t cut it for CAS.

@mcmatt212

Well, Deloitte comes to NYU and they’re a premier consulting firm. Let’s put it this way. People don’t come to Stern to do consulting. It’s viewed as more of an option to them.

The Stern brand name is known, but not a whole lot of consulting firms actively flock to NYU’s campus. Anyway, consulting is a very broad term. Many firms that recruit at NYU might have subsidiary divisions of consulting. The only way I can base the prestige of consulting is by seeing how firms recruit. It’s mainly banking and accounting.

Man, you’re an *******. I’m glad most people here are less cynical than you…

If I could get my SAT too an 1800 at least do you think I might have a chance?

I just speak the truth. Scores is such a big part of the admissions process here. 1800 isn’t competitive, but it’s not like you’re a 100% done for. I think the CAS average SAT score is ~2000.

Definitely still apply. I know people here who have 1800’s. Granted, most of them are not in CAS, but anything can happen. College admissions is never an exact science.

Thanks for the honesty. What about LSP? do I have a chance with the 1670 for LSP?

Will applying for financial aid affect my chances to get in ?

And, Can i apply for financial in my sophomore year ?

is a 28 ACT composite good for steinhardt ED I?

hey! my weighted gpa is currently a 4.6, with an unweighted 3.8. my SAT scores aren’t the best (only in the mid 1800s). i’m captain of the varsity swim team, on the board of student council, have a demanding job, and do missionary work. nyu right now is my top choice, and i’m applying early in november. do you think i stand a chance? i’m also interested in the stern school of business

I love NYU and it’s a school I would DIE to go to! Could you please tell me if I have a chance, or if it is something I should push aside?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1390546-2-8-gpa-decent-test-scores-chance-me.html#post14835269

Which school is the easiest to get into? Also, if I send in my application early for regular decision, will i generally have a better chances of getting in and getting adequate financial aid?

@dwarnock95

Now LSP is more realistic, although even those ■■■■■■■ still have 1800’s. Not out of the question though. Just apply, the college process is full of surprises so who knows.

@Nicolas317

Officially it doesn’t. But let’s be real. NYU is bleeding cash. This school has one of the lowest endowments of any top school in America. They do not like doling out money for FA. You have to be an exceptional student to receive substantial FA. If not, you’ll probably get some garbage amount.

@nyu427

Steinhardt isn’t too competitive for admissions. A 28 should get it done, especially for ED1. Of course, it goes without saying, try aiming for the highest score you can.

@hannaholmstead1

I liked what I was seeing up until the last sentence Hannah. Stern is the killer. 1800’s don’t get it done there. The best you can hope for is to try and contact a coach to join the women’s swim team. Honestly, that’s your only shot. Or of course, if you’re black or Hispanic. If not, try contacting the swim coach. The SAT scores are unfortunately very low for Stern.

@oreosahoy

Your scores are decent. Your unweighted GPA blows. I think it’s possible, but cross your fingers.

@jsn2594

Steinhardt and Gallatin, although there’s others like the dental school, etc… No clear cut answer since NYU doesn’t release admissions rates for specifics schools within it.

Applying ED 1 gives you a better chances than regular. Although having cash would likely increase your chances. NYU gives some of the most awful financial aid, it’s truly unbelievable. Don’t bank on financial aid whether you’re applying early or regular. The endowment is as dry as it gets.

Note to all: asking me to chance you is essentially useless. I used to go on this site and ask for chances when I was in high school because I was as freaked out as you. Nobody on here is an admissions counselor. Let’s face it. People on here aren’t experts including myself when it comes to admissions. There’s so many factors involved and so many odd admissions stories that nothing is out of imagination. I’ll still answer your chance questions, but frankly it’s not going to do much.

thank you so much!
