I used this board last year and it really helped me out so I want to do the same for anyone who has any questions

I have friends in all the different dorms and almost all the schools so even if I'm not particularly competent in an area I know a little about almost everything

ask away! just no 'what are my chances' ones please

Dang, I was just about to ask what you thought my chances were. Perhaps instead you could tell us your stats and what you think helped you get in. Right now everyone is anxious about getting in early decision, or is getting their application together for regular admission. Any advice you can give on getting in would be most helpful.

Anyway, it's great to have a real student here to answer questions.

I don't know if you would know the answer, but, in my short answers on the application I write quotation marks, but on the preview the quotation marks arent there...only space :(

also, did you go to NYU by yourself, and if so, how easy was it to make friends??

Well, if you already applied ED then there's nothing really left to do but wait.

Look for the results form last year's ED it says everyone's stats/accepted or rejected/if they got merit $/what school they applied to - that will give you a good idea of people's stats bc it really does depend on the school

I remember my guidance counselor teling me that as long as I applied ED and had SATs in the 1300's and an A- gpa (at least 3.6) you should be good to go

keeshii- i have no idea about your first question

secondly, there were 6 people who came from my high school but there may as well have been none. I was not friends with any of them, live in the same dorm, or go to the same school w/in NYU so I have only seen them once or twice

If you have an ounce of friendliness in you then you will be fine. I have made so many friends and I have a really close group of friends too. Just be friendly your first week and you will be fine. Everyone is in the same boat and when it comes down to it everyone is hoping to make friends. My advice is to not lock yourself in you room the first week though, people who did not make friends right away seem to be outcasts. Honestly, I did not go looking for friends after the first week because I already had friends, but I no longer even hang out with the friends I was constantly with during welcome week. You meet lots of peopel through people and you will eventually find your niche...but you do need people in the beginning to get meet other people. I don't know if that really made sense, but to answer your question simply- yes, it is VERY easy to make friends.

Before you got accepted, did you get anything in the mail from NYU that gave you any indication that you were going to be accepted? If so, what did they send you, and about how long did it take before you found it if you were accepted?

I so remember freaking out everytime I got something from NYU between the time I applied and got my acceptance. Everything was questioned whether or not it meant I was in or not. The answer is: no. Anything you get ED does not mean if you are in. Everyone gets it whether they eventually get accepted or not. Pretty much it's just NYU's way of spending more of our money.

For regular decision, however, there is a letter people get in the beginning or mid march that indicates that they have gotten accepted.

I found out on December 14th..they started coming out on the 13th. GSP I'm pretty sure found out the first week of december, but I could be off. Acceptances do come out before rejections.

19 Long Lines and Red Tape...so true, BUT give me a big school where you won't find this and I'll give you a cookie

1 Students Dissatisfied with Financial Aid...I didn't apply, but you choose if you want to attend or not so people need to stop complaining

1 Gay Community Accepted..definitely, I have more gay friends than I can count and I had none in high school

14 Best College Theater...ahh tischies

13 Intercollegiate Sports Unpopular or Nonexistent..very true, I've never been to a sporting event and don't plan on it either. NYU even provides food and free t-shirts for some of them just to get people to go

6 Nobody Plays Intramural Sports...same as above

8 Reefer Madness...not too sure what that meant

8 Dodge Ball Targets...um. no- but if I remember correctly that's because this is only based on other questions such as our barely existent sorority/fraternity life and sports
