Hey,

I'm a freshman in CAS, and I'm bored on spring break, so I was thinking... if anyone has any questions about life/academics/residential program/etc., feel free to post here. I'll be as honest as I can.

Cheers.

This really isn't a question about the school so much as I was wondering how NYU notifies you of their decision since it says April 1st on the website. I am so confused heh.

I'm not sure, but I am POSITIVE that the NYU's office of admissions bulletin board (forum) will have that answer.

Last year, the package arrived around April 1. It was sent out last week in march.

Are there any paid law internships in the area?

Notification is by snail mail and you should hear on or around April 1. Some hear a few days before, some a few days after. There's no way to find out your decision online, and they will not tell you by phone.

Hrm my notification wasn't by snail mail last year...

NYU has always does their notification by mail, not email or online.

Does Sunday in the Square Invitation mean anything?

hi... how hard is it to get into NYU... did you have really good stats?

thanks

ej

How did you make most of your friends. Was it mainly through classes or from your dorm or just hanging out in Wash Square.

im a student here, so i'll answer some questions...

the sunday at the square thing i believe is pretty much an invite for people that nyu wants to attend the school...you're more or less in as far as i could recall (dont take my word for it though, i got in early, so they never had that for us). even if you dont plan on attending, go, there's free food and stuff. hell, i might go for the free food.

its definitely more difficult to get in. stat-wise, most applicants have the same stats - nyu is looking for diverse people, so hopefully you come off as an interesting person in your essay/personal statements. but like any school you go to, there are people that truely deserve to be here and there are people here that make you wonder what's wrong with the admissions office.

friend-making=going to various events / dorms / classes / bars / on the street / pretty much anywhere you want to look. no matter where you go, you will make friends if you're open to different lifestyles and types of people, and you're not a pompous douchebag. nothing really changes from what life is like for you now in high school, as far as friend-making is concerned.

What classes did you take this year?

matth~
Oh I mistook your snail mail as to mean "Regular mail"
Yeah mine was done through mail, but some sorta express service.
I was really impressed that they were able to get it to my address in Korea on the morning of April 1st O_O

is it worth the 45k?

thats going to depend on your major, naturally

I'll answer some of the questions too.

firewalker: Yes. It's New York City.
mbe: It's like an early acceptance.
LibbyLou725: NYU is a pretty competitve school to get into. Personally, I had good stats (namely a high SAT score).
lslavin: You will make almost all your friends through your dorm (It's the most convenient).
Mr_Socrates06: Freshman year I took Writing the Essay and Advanced Writing the Essay, Macro and Microeconomics, Computer Based Systems, Business and Its Publics (weekly speakers with former CEOs, bankers etc.), multivariable calculus, a world cultures course on China, and Physics 1.
matt1288: Its worth it for me, albeit I'm only paying 35K. If you make the most of your experience (by taking advantage of New York and NYU), it's worth it.

Are you paying 35K year? People generally say NYU is not very generous with scholarships; do you agree?

I am very happy with the money I got from NYU. I received a need based/merit scholarship with my early decision acceptance. I am probably one of the luckier ones, though.

I want to apply to Stern ED. How much easier/more likely is Stern ED than Stern RD?

If I apply ED:
-if they look at first term senior grades which for my school comes out at the End of november, I'd have like a ~3.65/~3.92 (if I weighed 1 point per honors/AP instead of the .3 my school gives)
-if not, it's ~3.57/~3.86

If I do Stern RD:
-Potentially it could go up to a ~3.7/~4.1

Also there's a certain notoriety with the "Stern" curve...it Stern really as grade deflated as people say? I hear the average GPA at Stern is like a 2.7-ouch.

My SAT is around like ~2160 by the way.

There's a slight advantage to applying E.D. NYU generally takes about a third of its freshman class in the E.D. round. It's not as large an advantage as it is at other colleges but if NYU is your first choice school, and you don't need to compare f/a packages, then apply E.D. Don't just do it for the advantage in acceptance percentage.

NYU looks at u/w gpa and will recalculate it with only your core academic subjects.
