@NYUGirl2014
thanks so much this is so nice of you!

so I want to apply to the Global Liberal Studies program, do you know much about it? and do students from different schools (like tisch and CAS, etc) spend time together or do you only make friends within whatever program you’re in? also, I’m nervous about making friends at nyu…i’ve read that people are mean and too independent and stuff but then other people (like you!) say they’re all nice and outgoing…and if you do know about GLS, is it harder to get into? I’m so nervous! I’ve done everything but the supplements. they just freak me out because I’m having trouble conveying how much I want to go to nyu without it sounding corny or boring…ugh!

well anyway thanks so much, can’t wait to hear from you!

Just reviving this thread for anyone interested that has either recently gotten into NYU (in which case, congrats!) or is thinking about applying next year to field some questions!

Also, may I suggest visiting [New York University | Her Campus](NYU | Her Campus) to get a vibe of what college life is REALLY like at New York University from the viewpoint of actual students! It is a great, fun site that I think you all will really enjoy! :)

Hi,
Could you please tell me what life is like in NYU? I heard they don’t have a campus like any other school because the campus is actually the city itself.
Also, did you apply to any other schools besides NYU?
What are you majoring in at NYU and do you like the professors there?

Thanks in advance :)

ilovepink:
NYU doesn’t have a technical campus like other schools do, however most students (especially first-years) live around Washington Square Park and the park itself is mainly used as a “quad” for students to hang out/eat/etc.
I’m majoring in Journalism and Musical Theatre! The professors, of course you have good and…average of everything. So far I wouldn’t say I’ve had a bad prof. The TAs can be kind of annoying at times because they’re just grad students but they take themselves so seriously moreso than profs even. But of course not all TAs either. The professors are generally realllllly good about meeting with a student for whatever the question/concern may be. But of course this is just generalizing about the specific professors that I have encountered here so far, and not all of them in the university as a whole!

thanks so much this is really helpful

Hi-

I’m going to be a freshman at NYU next fall and I was wondering what kind of rooms and suites were available in Hayden? Also, do they have single bedrooms?

Thanks.

urbanman:
first-CONGRATS!!! it’s awesome!
second-check this link out: [Features and Services](http://www.nyu.edu/life/living-at-nyu/on-campus-living/explore-the-residencehalls/Hayden-Hall/Features-and-Services.html)
I’ve only been in a double in Hayden before and its kind of small in my opinion, so I can’t speak on behalf of the other rooms. The triple suites have three bedrooms with one person per room. There are no single rooms where you have absolutely no roomate, though.

Hope that helps!

What are my chances of NYU CAS for environmental science? I’m just waiting till April 1st for decisions (RD) … 3.74 GPA and a 2060 SAT: CR:630 M: 720 W:710 and I got an 800 on my my Subject Math 2c (690 on the other).

Hi!
First off, this is really nice of you for offering help. I had a few questions I was hoping you can answer:
- Did NYU offer you a nice financial package?
- How is the social life at nyu?
- Are the classes hard?

Thank you very much!

NYU is notoriously less than great with financial aid. I know a few people who got some merit aid but it seems like most people just get loans.

The social life at NYU is different. In my experience, there haven’t been a lot of on-campus parties-most people seem to go out instead. Pretty much all of my friends that I still hang out with I met through class or a club. I feel like for a lot of students it takes a little time to find your niche and your good friends (although that’s probably true at most schools) but once you do it’s great because you live in nyc and there are endless things to do! and there are also clubs for seriously anything you can think of, so you can always find someone with something in common.

Depends of the class/school/professor. I’ve haven’t had any TOO difficult ones yet but others have had some that they say are insane. so it just depends.

Do most CAS students have no classes on Fridays?.
Are most required MAP etc classes very large?
Do you get a chance to know the Professors or vice versa?

Thanks

Hey, thanks for doing this! I really want to go to NYU, but I do have questions/concerns.

Do kids actually participate in school clubs/organizations, or is it more popular to just hang out in the city?

Do you know anyone in the Residential College? What do they think of it?

This might be personal, but how did you make friends when you first got there? Was it mostly classes, or welcome week, or clubs, or something else?

Thanks again!

First off, thanks for making this thread!
Second, I’m thinking of dorming in Brittany. Do you know anyone who dormed there or in Rubin? Is the lack of airconditioning tolerable?

I will horn in because my D lives in Brittany now and loves it. Large, large rooms, lots of closets, great location especially for her Tisch studio, close to dining halls, etc. The lack of AC was a problem for 2 weeks and she was miserable, then it was fall and it was fine. They are still having snow/sleet so the heat is still on as of today. When she leaves in mid-May it may be getting warm, but should not be as bad as August was. She would live there again in a heartbeat.

^ Thank you! That “2 weeks, then it’s fine” thing is repeated a lot. Glad to know about the large rooms– that’s definitely another plus.

reviving this thread for any incoming NYU feshman/anyone considering applying with any questions…!

Do you know if the students at NYU tend to be very competitive and not helpful to each other? I’m hoping to apply to Stern which I’ve heard can get a little hectic at times.

Please check you inbox! :)

Hi! Thanks for making this thread. Like others on here I’m also thinking about applying to Steinhardt. My first question is…

1) Can you double major within Steinhardt? I’d be applying for music business but I really don’t want to leave my love for composition out in the dust.

2) On the application there was this one thing that was like “if NYU thinks you’d be better suited for a different major within NYU than the one you listed would you still like to be accepted to this different major?” So… has this happened to anyone who has applied that you know of?

3) i’m pretty confident in my musical ability and EC’s and my grades aren’t that bad I think (3.4 UW GPA) but i’m still suffering with a deathly SAT score of 1710. I’m taking them again of course (along with the ACT) but should I not even try? It’s not they can magically become a 2000 or anything.

4) if you’re in Steinhardt can you still take classes in CAS? I really want to take Japanese and Korean classes even though it has nothing to do with music business.

thanks!
