NYU Global Liberal Studies - Especially London

My daughter got into NYU GLS and is now at the end of her first month in London. If anyone has questions about the application process, I'm happy to help. Also, if you get into GLS, particularly London, I am happy to share what we went through and what we would do differently. :)

I would love to have some info on that. What’s the application process? What about housing and what would you do differently?

Application is the same as general NYU applications, except there is a supplemental essay that specifically asks about a willingness/interest to study abroad. Also, go to the Global Liberal Studies links and look at the different programs. See which program you are most interested in and then look at what you’ve done to date academically, with community service and ECs. Don’t change what YOU are interested in to look good on paper, but if there is a particular program that lights your fire… really lights your fire… look at how and what you can do with the classes you are choosing and the out of classroom activities to show that that program is a true and authentic passion for you. If you pick a program, post a reply here and I’m happy to look and give you feedback to help prepare.

My question about the Global Liberal Studies program is if you can apply to it as a secondary option if you don’t get into a school or if it is easier/harder to get into than just a typical application to CAS or Steinhardt?

It is generally easier to get into Global Liberal Studies than CAS or Steinhardt. You can request it as a secondary option for most programs–but not all.

You application is to NYU. On the common app you can indicate an interest in studying abroad. If you are interested in this, definitely answer that essay prompt and mention which city you are most interested in. Also, at the end of your Sophomore year you can choose to stay in GLS or transfer schools. (Stern and Tisch being the exception in most cases) However, you can to cross-school minors with Stern, Tisch, etc. without transferring out of the GLS Program.

Hi, I have a question about applying to NYU (NYU Poly) in general. I really want to go to NYU however my low SAT score has hindered me. Do you have any tips to strengthen my application? Thank you!
