NYU Goddard WTE

I had opted to go with the regular WTE course. I just received an email asking me to switch to the Goddard stream focused WTE, Poverty and Affluence. Is this mandatory? After reading a bit about WTE, it seems like the course is unreasonable in terms of grading, dependent on how well you know your professor and what they think about the topic. As such, it's best to choose the standard course rather than one of the specific ones offered. Will I be forced to take the Goddard WTE?

It turns out that I’m not required to take the Goddard WTEs. Are there any advantages of taking Goddard WTEs aside from convenience of location? Will taking the standard WTE give me the best chance of securing a good grade without hassle?

Other than location there really isn’t that much of a difference. The course materials are pretty much the same and varies between teachers, but that variation can be found among all WTE classes, not just Goddard or non-Goddard ones. I think that it does have a few advantages:

 1. Because it’s only open to Goddard students, chances are that you’ll be in a class with some floormates that you’re friends with and you can ***** about the class with them when you’re hanging out after.
 2. The convenience of location can never be understated. You’ll appreciate on a rainy day or when you wake up late from an afternoon power nap.
 3. As I’m sure you know, Goddard does require you to attend some of its events throughout the year. Those events are led by WTE teachers, based upon the stream that the event is dedicated to. So for a class as subjective as writing, you might appreciate the opportunity to get to know your teachers better outside of class.
 4. Honestly, if you don’t, you’ll be probably one of the only few Goddard residents not in the Goddard WTE. No one is gonna give a ****, but still, you do miss out on that commonality with your hallmates.
