Okay,
So I tried to search about this and got nowhere because all my search components were too short so please bear with me or tell me how to search to get what I need.

The question:
Those of you who got into NYU or who have children who got in [even if finally deciding not to go there], what type of GPA in HS did you/your child have?

I am trying to determine which of two conflicting claims I recently heard, is the truth about what type of HS academic performance is required for admission to NYU.

Believersmom, I don't post my childrens' stats on message boards. If you want to PM, I could share though I usually don't but I would for you. Stats are important but admissions involves lots of factors/criteria. Also if you are looking at GPA, you have to also look at the difficulty of the curriculum....ie, did student take the most challenging curriculum available, etc. Also, for NYU, looking at my 2003 edition of Princeton Review...it says: SAT range (talking the 25th%tile to 75%tile of admitted students) is: Verbal 630-710 and Math 600-710. Average HS GPA is: 3.7. 72% graduated in top 10% of class, with 93% in top quarter of their HS class. Hope this helps. Please remember that so much else goes into it beyond these numbers though you have to have numbers in range to be considered.

PS, I just went to research this for you at NYU's website for admissions. The stats for the current class include:

Academic Statistics (Four-year Programs)
Average High School GPA: 3.63
SAT Score Range (middle 50%): 1310 1440
Ranked in Top 10% of High School Class: 71.9%

My d's stats: 1360 SATs, 3.7 GPA, 27 out of 400 in class. (she was accepted ED, though). All honors and AP classes throughout high school. My gut feeling is that your SAT's shouldn't really be below 1200, nor your GPA below a 3.5, but that's just from my own personal observations. It seems that most of my d's classmates at NYU have much higher stats than her.

I had a friend go to Cap 21 for the summer, and at an information meeting, an administrator saaid the adverage GPA of Cap was somewhere around 3.2-3.3. For the longest time, there was a rumor around my school that someone had gotten in with a 2.5. They came back to visit and they said they had a 3.0 solid.

Out of the people I knew who had applied to NYU, the only ones that got in were 4.0+. Not tooo shure about SAT's, but they were high.

hopefully this wil be helpful...as we had to take the new SAT's that were out of 2400

i got into cap with a 3.48 gpa and 1960(1300 on SAT), but i would like to reiterate that it is what your gpa does that matters, I have taken 8 ap classes, so that probably makes a difference from someone with a 3.6 and 2 aps...also, nyu said they understand if your school doesnt offer that many aps, and they take into account your schedule in comparison to others

They also take into consideration your school's difficulty. For example, the county I live in has one of the toughest grading scales, so they can see that a where I live a 94% is the lowest you can get to get an A while other counties in Virginia an A is a 90%! So you can have an outstanding GPA, but if the school's grading scale isn't difficult, SAT's come more into play.

leyton, MaryAnna hasn’t been a member here since 2006 and this thread is eight years old! The 1350 would have been out of 1600 in the referenced post.

D was a high school valedictorian at a 5-A school with about a 102 average (they did not use the 4.0 scale). SAT as I recall was 1980 and ACT was 32…going from memory here. I remember that her SAT/ACT were not incredibly high but at Tisch the audition, EC’s and her experience in community theatre offset that.
