I got into NYU GSP and Boston University. I'm not sure which to attend, though. I really like NYU, but I haven't gotten my financial aid package yet and the admissions office said it's in the mail. But, which school do you guys think is better? I got into CAS at Boston U, but GSP at NYU.

Personally, I'd go with BU, you're likely to get better financial aid.

For BU, I got 32k in grants and 8k in loans.

Hi Nickel...Tough decision....When you get FA, come back, but NY or Boston??? Both great, but different.....

Well, they mailed out my NYU financial stuff already, but then I got an e-mail they made a change. The office closes at 5 Eastern time and I get home from school at 4 PM Central time, so I get home when they leave. DX I have to wait until Wednesday when they close at six PM to call them and ask about my situation. My parents will make around 54k this year, do you think I'll get good aid at NYU? Or at least some that can meet BU's?

wow your FA for BU is WAY better than mine (13K in grants and 8K in loans). Anyway, NYU is not going to beat BU's offer so go to BU.

Is BU a better school?

according to USNEWS, no. but USNEWS is not everything and a lot of things are quite similar at both schools.

Well, you can also consider it by admission percentage (in the sense that NYU accepts nearly half the amount BU does), and I'd say you'd have more opportunities by going to NYU, but the FA will be a big part.

I think NYU's academics are better than BU's but a close friend of mine who goes to BU says that the workload there is tough, especially if you're a science major.

I got a lot of money from BU ...not nearly as much from NYU...I say that if you love NYU and think that you have the money to go there...then do so because you would probably have better opportunities cuz of the name.,..but if you dont, then def take BU's offer.....unless NYU is everything for u lol

I'm going to be a Classics major. xD I think I got myself very excited about NYU, but don't know if I can afford it.

follow the money.....D accepted to both, BU gave 25,000 grants and scholarship, fed loans. NYU has not sent financial aid pkge yet. But from what I see BU will do better with FA. It is a tough choice. Both reputable schools. NYU better contacts. NYU noted for the arts. IMO NYU more culturally diverse but BU may make it more attainable. Can't go wrong with either choice. Boston is big college city with many colleges in area.

I want to major in the Classics and everyone says NYU is better at humanities than BU. =/ But I just hope I get my aid soon.

nickel, if it comes down to money, then go to BU so you can avoid the financial strain on your family. You will get a good education there.

But if it turns out that money is not such a huge problem, I would go to nyu. I too was accepted to both nyu and bu, and have visited both schools. I personally like nyc more than boston, and like the atmosphere of nyu more. It depends what you like more.

I think I told you earlier than I met 3 kids at bu who only went there b/c they were rejected by nyu, literally. Like one student told me he was rejected from stern, so went to bu, and planned to transfer out when he could...and that was a turnoff for me b/c I didn't want to go to school with a bunch of kids who are only there b/c they're nyu rejects, when I have the opportunity to go to nyu.

so visit both and check them out. They're both good schools, you decide which is better for you.

I can't afford to go visit both, so I need to make up my mind which one I like more so I can visit. ^_^''

ok.
well in that case let me describe the campuses to you a little.
NYU - in a nice part of manhatten. No real 'campus', no grass or kids reading books under trees. Washington square park gives it a nice feel though, and the undergrad buildings are all pretty close together. There's always a lot of nyu kids around the area, you can see herds of them walking to class together.

BU - a little more of a traditional campus. Located in a good part of boston, but not as nice as nyu, I think. There's more grass and trees and stuff, but it's not suburban, a few good student hangouts around the area, but just in my opinion it doesn't have the appeal of nyc.

Boston is like the #1 college city in the country and there's tons to do there for students...internships, jobs, bars, shows, lots of opportunities and fun places to go. NYC is bigger, has even more opportunities I think, and a stronger liberal arts education.

Now, of course you will get a good education at both schools, but between the two nyu appeals to me more. Plus I save myself a ton of money commuting.

Are GSP students treated any differently by their peers?

I personally don't see a difference between GSP and other students at NYU. In fact, GSP kids that I have met are perhaps a bit more intelligent than regular CAS kids, which was a shocker. But in any case, some people may crack jokes, but nothing too serious, and you can transfer into your program after a year or 2, so it's no big deal.

You're still in NYU, which is a step up from BU, but if financial issues are a problem then I would probably recommend BU. Otherwise NYU is definitely the place to be.

If you want a stronger education and more prestigious degree, go to N.Y.U. If you really want to save money, go to B.U.
