I think there is some erroneous and missing info on this thread. I have a S at NYU-Stern. Hyrule is correct that NYC and NYU are very accepting, cosmopolitan arenas. My S's classes are diverse and the community is very diverse. He absolutely loves NYU.

Regarding GSP...I have recently looked into it because a good friend's D was accepted to NYU in the GSP. My understanding (look at other threads on CC about this) is that you do GSP program for two years and if you maintain a 3.0 average, then you will be accepted into the NYU School you orginally applied to. So then you do that program for two years and come out with a degree from that school, whether it is CAS, Stern or Steinhardt (not quite sure if Tisch does this route). I don't think GSP is mentioned in your transcript. You would have a BA from CAS or Stern or whatever.

My D and I have visited McGill twice in the past year (summer and winter). She loves it and it seems like a great school. It will be cheaper than NYU as you probably know. Montreal is a wonderful bilingual city with as much distraction as NYC but some things you can do at an earlier age. This could be good or bad depending on the personality.

Two things I can say for NYU over McGill. NYU is a big real estate owner in NYC and they have great apartment dormitories as you become an upper classman (even though they are fairly expensive). His room this year is pretty big and so is the apartment in general by NYC standards but he is so looking forward to Broome Street Dorm next year if he and his roommates get their first choice in the lottery. McGill only guarantees first year dormitory. Most students move off campus to "the McGill ghetto" which actually is close but we have no idea how those apartments look or they move further away and take the train. At this point housing off campus can be inexpensive but you have to be willing to look into it. Montreal isw freezing and on a hill so you will do lots of trekking up and down a hill everyday. NYU is flat.

Regarding females. NYU's M/F ratio is 35/65 and out of that 35%, at least 20% is gay (probably higher!). My son figures he has a 1/3 ratio of guys to girls. He likes these odds and in fact has had a girlfriend who pursued him from Oct. We adore her! He had one girlfriend in HS. So if you are male, you have more of an advantage I think at NYU. My H or S did not note or notice that the females were any more beautiful in Montreal than NYC or NYU.
