Nyu Gsp Vs Ucsd

I'm trying to decide between UCSD or NYU. I'm instate so UCSD offered me basically a full ride, while nyu gave me about 20k in scholarships/work study, with a 23k in loans. I like NYU more than UCSD because it seems that NYC offers me more things, while san diego and jolla is just the beach and TJ. I plan on majoring in social sciences or econ, and UCSD, from what i hear, is a science-based school. GSP seems second rate, but it also seems a lot more interesting because of Florence and much smaller classes than UCSD, so I don't mind it too much. Any thoughts?

But you're not "stuck" in GSP - you end up taking the same classes for a major as any other person in that major at NYU...

huh? when did i say i was stuck?

I meant, it's hardly second rate, since you'll end up getting the same education as any other NYU kid in your major, and I've heard that the GSP core classes are frankly better than the regular MAP program. I wouldn't know, but I can certainly believe it...

I would def. go with UCSD than NYU GSP especially since UCSD gave you a full ride. At least you'll be considred a UCSD student when you go there. (yes, yes GSP people, you are an NYU student....after 2 years). And you even though you should do well with your GPA no matter what, you won't have the pressure of having to get a 3.0 in order to go on to your juinior year.

euphoria, you are really anti anti anti gsp, aren't you?

& i don't attend, so i would not know, but come on. i kno i'm probably jinxing myself, but how can a 3.0 really be that hard to maintain? i truly believe that as long as one is a committed student, one can maintain at least a 3.0.

i would go for the experience (you only live once, and there are people that are taking out >100k loans, so you're not that badly off). i don't even know why nyu only allows gsp students to go to florence. i bet it would be a very sought after program if it were offered to all students.

ok i will not say anything bad about gsp from now on.
dtt131: go for NYU gsp. it's soo worth it. best of luck to you.

you should do well in college right....but r u planning on going to grad school or stopping after grad school. UCSD has great weather and nice city. NYC is one of a kind. Hwoever, 100k in loans at the min is a ****load to take on. Its just undergrad. UCSD is a nice school in a great place. NYU, wouldnt you have to apply to stern for econ? Anyway, consider the difference in ejoyablility during college adnn income afterwards. is nyu worth 100k more than ucsd? I dont know. 100k can be used for other stuff.

and is this assuming tuition and r&b dont go up. Also consider travel expenses and the fact that home is 3000 miles away. You may want to get away but travel is going to add up and you cant exactly get some spending cash from your parents

CAS has an econ major. Plus, if the OP was in GSP, he/she could apply to going to Stern after the 2 years of GSP were over (I think - I'm not sure if you have to have originally applied for Stern)

There's nothing wrong with GSP.. NYU is simply monitoring your grades to make sure they don't drop down to below a 3.0 for 2 years. If you're a vigorous kid who's determined to excell, maintaining a minimum of 3.0 should be no problem.

If I were you, I would defniately take on NYU as an econ/social sciences major. NYU is more mainstream than UCSD as in that you'll get more exposure to wonderful opportunities to intern. There's much more culture and prestige to NYU than UCSD.

UCSD is a NICHE in Southern California that's known for its excellence in science/math related fields.

I'm actually faced with a similar dilemma as you.. I'm an out of state student for UCSD and I got into NYU's Steinhardt for communication/journalism. Because there's not much of a financial difference btw the two schools for me, NYU is the obvious choice.

Well i recently talked to a teacher of mine, who is an nyu alumni, and he said that GSP sounded much better than cas and would probably go there instead if he had the chance. but regardless of gsp i would love to go to nyu, the problem is isn't 100k in loans a little too much?

i have the same exact problem! let me know if you've made a decision!!!
