Hi, I am going to be living at NYU for the summer only & my friend (non-NYU affiliated) is going to be staying with me for about a week… my roommates will not be there for this entire week (it will just be me and my friend). I do not go to NYU but am just staying here for an internship. I know NYU’s policy is that a guest cannot stay for more than 3 nights in a row, but how strictly do they enforce this? Will I have to sneak my friend in somehow or do they not care?
I cannot say that I am specifically familiar with NYU’s guest policy, but in my experience, guest policies are mostly there so that roommates have some recourse if one of the residents is flagrantly violating the policy against their will. For the most part, if you will be alone and your roommates don’t mind, having a friend stay there for a week won’t necessarily be noticed or flagged.
Still, check with your roommates first so they can give the okay!
I think it will depend on the security guard, the RA etc. so it is impossible to know how strictly they will follow the rules. NYU is in a prime location in NYC and the college probably doesn’t want its dorm being used as a hotel or to house extra people for free (especially by non-NYU students who are just staying for the summer). I would not presume that you can get your friends in your dorm for more than 3 days even if your roommate isn’t there – your friends should have a back-up plan. I would not play games trying to sneak them in as it could jeopardize your summer housing.
Please realize that sneaking them in and breaking the rules could put your housing in jeopardy. Your post sounds like you plan on doing this even if it is against the rules which is not a smart thing to do.
