NYU--> GWU i need suggestions!!

I'm thinking about doing a Freshman Spring transfer to GWU from NYU.. tell me if I'm doing the right thing..

So... I will be a freshman at nyu's CAS as Economics major in fall..

I would really like to work in consulting firms in advisory department.

The thing is that GWU, which was my second choice ( I would've applied to Elliott School of international Affairs as International Affairs major with International Economics concentration) offers more generous financial aid compare to nyu.. which offered me like..
$13500... and the rest is loans, which will add upto about 170K for four years.

On the other hand, I am confident, from looking at my other friends who are going to GWU, that I will be offered alot more financial aid.

Would getting a degree (international affairs- international economics) hurt my chances of securing a position in a management consulting firm just becaue my degree isn't B.A Economics? besides, theres Econ at Stern for NYU...

What should I do??

I would really like some suggestions

Well one thing you need to take into consideration is that some schools will give less financial aid for transfers than freshmen. So while many of your friends may be getting a lot now, you may not get the same amount.

In terms of the “value of your degree”, I doubt a degree in international affairs vs economics would make much of a difference. However, a degree from NYU probably has greater value than from GWU (assuming you come out with comparable GPA’s, work experience, etc).

But assuming you would be willing to live with that kind of loans, I’d say at least give NYU a chance. You said it was your first choice and besides financial aid, it doesn’t seem like there’s much of a reason to leave. Don’t forget you can always apply for scholarships as a continuing student or you could get a job. So don’t just write-off NYU without giving it a chance!
