NYU: How did your kids adjust to the school

and the city? For parents who have or had kids going to NYU...did the kids feel they received a great college experience? Was it tough to make friends? Have they made friends for life? Would the students go there again? Do NYU students feel connected to other NYU stdents? Or is it a sidewalk school?

Going to school at NYU and adjusting to living in the city depends on the individual student. There are students who can make friends easily, join clubs, get involved with the NYU community and do very well both socially and academically, and then there are others who end up not liking it and drop out. It varies depending on the student's personality. Remember it's a huge school, and it can be very impersonal at times, and students tend to know more people from their own individual school, (Stern, Tisch, etc.) only because they're taking classes with them. Also, many classes are enormous in size and taught by TA's and not professors, so you have to consider that as well. Basically, the students need to make themselves known to the profs, staff, etc. so that they'll be treated as indivuduals rather than just another student taking classes.

sorry, I meant individuals (last line).

nyumom, sounds like NYU is more of a crapshoot than most schools. The lure of NY might make it worth rolling the dice.
