Hi, so I'm currently a high schools senior accepted to NYU CAS. However, during my senior year, I took my first economics class and realized that I really really love econ and want to major in it. Since I was accepted to NYU CAS, is it impossible for me to call NYU and have them review my appplication for NYU Stern instead? I believe my grades (3.86 unweighted 4.36 weighted), ACT score (33) and the variety of extracurriculars that I participated in will be able to get me into NYU Stern but will I be given that opportunity or would I have to wait until the end of NYU freshman year to apply?
BTW I know NYU CAS has economics but I would much rather prefer to attend NYU Stern because it is more prestigious and the students there have a better chance at getting business internships etc.

NYU CAS also has an Econ major. You do not need to transfer to Stern to major in Econ.

<a href=“Department of Economics”>Department of Economics;

It is a top 10 ranked program, so it is prestigious.

Yeah I know that but Stern is from what I hear more prestigious and I plan to major in business. I think going to Stern to major for economics is a better idea than taking it at CAS. So do u think I should call them and ask if they can reconsider my high school application for Stern or do I have to wait 1 year before they will consider me? Also if I have to wait 1 year, will Stern take into account your high school performance as well or just the freshman year at NYU? Thanks!

It won’t hurt to try to make them consider you for Stern. Just call and see what happens. Internal transfer into Stern, I’ve heard, is very difficult if not impossible, however.

ugg are you serious? Do you know if I apply at the end of freshman year if they consider both your high school application (GPA SAT/ACT SAT II extracurricular etc) and how you did freshman year or just how you did freshman year?

All I know is that Stern’s retention rate is very solid because no one tends to transfer out of it. It is one of the most prestigious business schools in our country after all. Stern is filled with very competitive students and it’s very cut throat.

I don’t know what exactly they place a majority of attention on when evaluating your internal transfer application as I’ve never seen the application for it nor sought information on it.

Hi I’m having the exact same problem as you right now! Although this post is from couple years ago can you tell me what happened? Did you call them in the end? Were you able to transfer to Stern?
