So my dad and I have been arguing about which one would be better. I’m applying to NYU stern, but there is a really good chance i’ll be put into the Liberal Arts Program instead. I feel that i’d be wasting my time with the liberal arts program because I won’t be able to transfer into Stern and why waste time taking core classes when I could be directly admitted into the Northeastern business program. My dad is all about name and thinks that I’d probably be hired if businesses see I went to NYU instead of Northeastern. He thinks that even if I do liberal arts at NYU, i’ll have the “name” that will help me stand out. Do you agree?
Where are you from?
Are you full pay?
NYU is a much stronger brand in the NY job market than Northeastern.
And if you are a full pay, NEU will take 5 years, and the first semester might be very expensive and abroad. If that’s the case, the ROI of NYU would be much better for NYU than NEU.
That being said, if you can get significant merit somewhere else - that might be your best ROI.
Can your parents afford NYU? You mentioned in another thread that your family income bracket was approximately $100K. Both of these university might be out of reach for you cost wise. Have you explored CUNY Baruch College and their Macaulay Honors College. Baruch has a high Asian population (>40%) and a well respected business school in NYC.
@Jamrock411 My family willl do anything to pay for me to go to a name school, so that really isn’t a problem. I am applying to Baruch as well.
I’d say a business degree from NEU with coops and business experience is going to get you a better business job than a psychology degree from NYU. You said you can’t get into stern is that not right?
Don’t argue until you see how things turn out. Sometimes the answer is obvious.
the NYU is will be a big bump even if its not from Stern. You can always do internships during school to make you a better candidate with experience vs students from most other schools. Also even if you get put into LSP, you will be able to get into CAS after 2 years and NYU Econ is an amazing program and if you do well you will be a good candidate for business jobs.
Whenever I see NYU and internship in the same paragraph I think of the Seinfeld episode when Kramer gat an NYU intern.
