NYU Liberal Studies Program

What?!! Noooooo!!! :(

OH my I got into LSP :-)

I got into college of arts and science

Took 9 APs, 2260 sat score and 98.3 avg.

I’m full IB. I’m not sure which schools here have AP, but mine is solely IB.

has anyone got the formal admission letter and packet from NYU LSP

Me…well…yeah I got my letter yesterday. The formal formal letter won’t get here until April 1st-ish.

Is it more difficult to transition into Gallatin after finishing LSP? My LSP letter said that I was not accepted into CAS (which I thought was odd since I applied to Gallatin, not CAS), but then said that I would be guaranteed a spot in Gallatin after. Since students in Gallatin are building their concentrations from the beginning, is it harder for LSPers to fulfill a concentration in two years?

^ Once again, lsp isn’t some kind of rigid program for 2 years. it’s a handful of gen ed classes, kind of like MAP, which you have 2 years to complete (you can finish earlier). So you can start taking classes in Gallatin right away freshmen year. You’ll be expected to start thinking about your concentration first year because it takes a lot of planning to be a Gallatin student. And you’ll have plenty of time to finish it - gallatin isn’t really as intense as most majors in CAS/Stern which are generally more time-consuming. You’ll also have a lot of control over your concentration since Gallatin is all about freedom. Freshmen year will be mostly LSP classes, but you can take 2 Gallatin classes of your choice too.

How do you find out about upcoming open houses for accepted LSP and/or NYU undergrad in general? My D rsvp’d by email, and we want to check out an open house. Takes some advance planning, as we are in CA.

Call the Admissions Office. They are super-helpful.

Hello everyone,
I just got accepted for the LS program, Does anyone now how many students comprise the campuses of Florence, London and Paris?
Thanks!!

Does anyone know if NYU pays for flights to NY for admitted students? I have a couple other offers that have included airline tickets.

Hi  I just got my acceptance to LSP today, I am very excited but a little bit concerned because I would like to double major in chem (more specifically neuroscience) /econ, I am wondering if I can transfer my APs (econ, psych, chem, us/euro history) into this program and transfer to CAS earlier? I understand it is difficult to do but I read here that someone did it in a year… just concerned that i won’t have a lot of time to fufill double major requirements (but NYU is my top choice so hopefully I can make it work!)
But I am so excited and I think I am going to do Florence my soph year  looking forward to meeting anyone who is going to be in the program next year :)

^ I’m afraid double majoring in Neuro + Econ after LSP would take about 6 years or so.

I finished LSP in 1 year but there were fewer requirements then, and I was in CAS’s women in science program, so my requirements were slightly different from most students. I ended up double majoring in Neuro + Chem in CAS, but that’s because i finished lsp in a year, had 32 AP credits and took lots of summer classes. Chemistry and Neuro have a lot of overlap so it was possible.

Neuro and Econ have no overlapping classes. Econ is an easy major with 10 required classes, but Neuro is intense with tons of requirements. So it’s just not possible to fit all the classes for both majors + LSP in 4 years.

Double majoring in Chemistry + Econ with LSP might work though. My advice for you is to pick 1 major, 1 minor, and stick with that. Freshmen always plan on this and that, and then get to college and realize things are a lot harder here. 1st in LSP you’ll only get 2 electives: I reccommend you take Gen Chem I first semester and see how that goes. If you end up liking chem, then I’d consider the Chem or Neurosci majors. If you end up disliking it, then you can always take Econ.

Yes, you can get AP credits (assuming you got 4’s and 5’s) but you can’t use them to transfer into CAS early. You still have to do all the LSP requirements - there’s no way around them!

good luck

I don’t get what happens then with AP credits in LSP?

Anyway I just got accepted today into LSP. I plan on doing IR/Economics. Is this difficult in LSP? I can always settle for IR major and Econ minor, not a big deal.

thank you- that helped alot- econ is my second choice, neuroscience and chem are the top choices, and I feel better knowing that it is POSSIBLE to double major in both :)(although I thought neuroscience was only a minor?) … I probably will take gen chem, but I’m concerned that it might be just like my AP chem class this year… I’m also interested in taking summer classes- can you take everything offered over the summer or are there classes that are only taught during the school year? Sorry for all the questions :P

@cowman - well basically, you can get up to 32 credits for AP classes, but they don’t exempt you from any lsp classes. they might exempt you from other classes in your major though

@sarr92 - No, neuro is only a major, no minor offered. And it is basically impossible to double major in neuro/chem or neuro/econ after LSP. chem/econ is the combo i said will be possible. Gen chem is an intro course for both the neuro and chem majors, so it’s best to take it freshmen year - the first semester of this course is similar to AP chem, but on a college level.

only certain classes are offered during the summer, you can check it on Albert when you register. most classes are only offered in the fall or spring

Hey everyone, just got my LSP acceptance today.

So I had a question for anyone who knows about this program. I orginally applied to CAS as a psych major who wanted to take pre-med courses (like bio, chem, physics) that are required to apply to a med school. If I went to NYU, how would this end up working? Do my pre-med prequisites fall under gen-ed? And for LSP, do I not start doing anything with Psych until junior year?

I’m new to this program, will take the time to research more but just wanted to see what people had to say.

Read a few pages back in this thread, I KNOW Alix addressed these questions. Also, search the forum, she wrote a terrific post about doing pre-med and LSP. She’s a science major and she was in LSP.

Oh ok thank you! Sorry, I should’ve looked back a couple of posts, I see them now
