NYU living expenses?

I'm aspiring to attend NYU (of course if I get in)
but I'm worried about college expenses--well NYU's tuition is very expensive to begin with, and regarding the living expenses at NYC, I don't know I would be able to afford it (I'm not eligible for financial aid).
How much, typically, does the living expense at NYU cost?

It depends...if you want to live the typical New York lifestyle (underage drinking (haha), regular movies, Broadway shows all the time, shopping, eating out often), be prepared to fork out at least $150-$200 a week. I know people that spend that a week, so yes it IS possible. Personally, I spend about $50 a week, and that includes transportation to and from work, going out, eating, movies, and stuff (I get a lot of Broadway shows free through my job)...basically, it's doing things in moderation which makes things affordable. New York can be as cheap or expensive as you make it to be. If you live in apartment style, also be prepared to buy groceries if you don't have a meal plan. But honestly (I wish I had thought about this before applying because I might be at Third North even though I love Hayden), if you can cook, I think it's cheaper to buy groceries (from somewhere like Trader Joe's) and cook than have a meal plan. But that's just me :-).

It's expensive. Especially if you have a typical nyu college student lifestyle. I think I feel it more than some people because my parents pay the tuition and that's it. I pay for transportation to school, food, etc.

That being said, don't hang with big spenders. There are a good number of kids who come to school with their parents credit cards and go do this and that. It's not that they're bad people, you just don't have the money to do what they do as frequently as they do. So don't hang with them.

Also, NYU has a lot of cool free events that students (RAs and OSA) work hard to put together. You should go to them as they're free entertainment, enrichment, and food.

Well I'm sort of used to living in a minimal budget so I guess it's really up to me?

It depends. I've survived on less than $200/mo, but obviously that means you can't indulge yourself all the time. If you can get a campus job or something like that for a few hours a week, I think you'll easily be able to cover your necessary costs.
